Peoples Progressive Party/Civic
PRESS RELEASE
Today, Leader of the Opposition and General Secretary of the PPP, Mr Bharrat Jagdeo and Member of Parliament Anil Nandlall met in Paramaribo, Suriname with hundreds of Guyanese, including the families of those who perished at the hands of pirates recently. Also in attendance were several survivors of these ordeals.
The families and the survivors explained in great details the horrors that they have endured at the hands of criminals and expressed great fears that these atrocities will be repeated unless the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice.
The Leader of Opposition expressed condolences on behalf of the PPP to families and relatives of those who perished and expressed the Partyβs solidarity to all those affected by the tragedy. He described these attacks as acts of terrorism and called upon both the Government of Guyana and Suriname to work collaboratively and swiftly in addressing these horrific incidents fully and comprehensively. He urged that the full force of the law be used to bring the perpetrators to justice. He emphasized that these are exceptionally criminal acts which require an exceptional response from the Government of Guyana and not the lukewarm, run-of -the mill approach, thus far, adopted.
The Opposition Leader also committed that the PPP will do all that it can, both in and out of Parliament, to assist , including working with the Government to bring reprieve to this situation.
Mr Nandlall, who spoke also condemned the horrendous attacks and pointed out that these are appropriate cases for Government to use βspecial prosecutorsβ to prosecute those charged in an effort to secure convictions.
Another public meeting with a different set of affected persons is scheduled to take place tomorrow at another location in Suriname. More information will be provided in due course.

Apparently the gist of my post is missed, read the highlighted.
Jagdeo is another liar like Granger. He feeds off the sympathy of his own people. He promises the sugar workers what he can't deliver. Now he is treading on another unfortunate event. The fishermen woes have been there long before now. They all become opportunists because the story making bigger waves than the Atlantic ocean.

The other point to note, these are Guyanese fishermen who are living in Suriname, some may be Surinamese by status. The piracy happened in Suriname waters, the Surinamese Police along with the Guyanese Police are investigating the matter.
He just trying to score cheap political points, speaking from both sides of his mouth.
