THE Guyana Police Force (GPF) is continuing its investigations into the Saturday night shooting to death of a police corporal and the injury of two other ranks who were fired upon by a gunman in the vicinity of the Plaisance Bus Park on Avenue of the Republic and who one eyewitness described as a “fearless skinny Indian boy. This publication was informed that investigators and other ranks of the force have been conducting random searches in several parts of the city as they hunt for the occupants of the car from which the gunman exited and carried out his assault on the lawmen. 
It was also reported that the police based on eyewitnesses accounts have already identified a suspect as the shooter and is presently trying to locate that individual. 
On Saturday night after the shooting the police swooped down in a community and cordoned off a wide section of the area as they searched for the suspect who they were informed might have been in the area after the shooting.
Late yesterday efforts by this publication to ascertain if the police were able to locate the car used by the gunman and which was identified as a Toyota 212 by eyewitnesses were futile. This newspaper was also unable to get from the police if they were able to hold anyone for questioning in relation to the shooting.
Yesterday morning investigators revisited the scene of the shooting and carried out further investigations. The location where the shooting occur remained cordon off by and under guard by the police from Saturday night up until late yesterday as investigators combed the area for spent shells and warheads.
Unconfirmed reports reaching the Guyana Chronicle stated that the initial investigations of the police as they examined the bullet riddled police vehicle revealed that the gunman might have used a high- powered weapon, supposedly or resembling an AK 47 assault rifle.
Meanwhile the other two police officers who were in the police pick up at the time of the shooting on Saturday night, Constable Randy Daly and Anil Persaud who were injured in the process are said to be out of danger. They were treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital after the shooting on Saturday night.
Police are hoping to get added information out of them as their condition improves which will be used to aid in the investigation.
On Saturday night, 25 year old Police Corporal Romain Cleto a father of one who hails from Region 1 but resided at lot 42 B Werk-en- Rust was gunned down after a white Toyota 212 motor car opened fire on a police vehicle, PLL 1188 in the vicinity of the Plaisance Bus Park on Avenue of the Republic in Georgetown.
The dead cop along with the other two ranks in the vehicle were said to be trailing the car which they perceived to be a vehicle of interest to the police as it was driving in a suspicious manner.

On Saturday night this publication was informed that while it was not clear from where the police began trailing the car, the occupants of the car became aware that the police were trailing them and attempted to make a dash from the police vehicle. However when they approached the Plaisance Bus Park on Avenue of the Republic the traffic light was still functioning and as such the traffic was at a snail pace.
