Christopher Ram and Anand Goolsarran.

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Attorney General, Basil Williams has defended the appointments of Chartered Accountant, Christopher Ram and Former Auditor General, Anand Goolsarran, who are conducting forensic audits of the accounts of several state-owned agencies.

The People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) objected to the two men being tasked with such a responsibility, accusing them of being closely aligned to the APNU+AFC government and as such, expressed no confidence that their findings will be objective.

PPP Executive Anil Nandlall at a Thursday June 18 press conference said, “Look at who they choose to do these audits, two sidekicks of theirs.”

While the political persuasions of both men are no secret, Williams on Friday, June 19 told reporters that he is confident that the two will be able conduct their audits in an impartial manner.

“Are they members of the government? I think they are professionals,” Williams said when probed about a possible conflict of interest.

He explained that neither Ram nor Goolsarran are affiliated with the governing parties in the APNU+AFC coalition.

“I know they are not affiliated with the APNU nor the AFC so I don’t know where the conflict is,” Williams opined.

Unacceptable individuals to conduct the assignments.

It would appear that the approach would be ... "Tell us what you want and we will conduct the work to find same."

Is it not their  objectivity that is in question?
