Cane cutters are paid by the weight of the cane in the punt, they can investigate to know who fill that punt and sometimes done by more than one person. Why are you blaming the PPP.

T is offering a hypothesis that because of the alleged disruptive history of the PPP in opposition (circa 1960s), the recent spate of crimes may have an author.

 

All the crimes after the election and before were committed by blacks.

It's been mentioned several times that if Blacks are employed by Indians to kill both Blacks and Indians it does not mean that these Blacks are owned by the PPP.

It also follows the same logic of the alleged disruptive nature of what is being reported. The disruptive examples cited are that economic disobedience by rice farmers or cane cutters (a notion that I will also challenge) and now the murders that are not dissimilar to the ones following the Mash 2002 jail break.

Bai, I'm from Uitvlugt Estate and I was appalled to read that it costs US$0.57/ Guy$114 to produce one pound sugar at Uitvlugt Estate, the highest production cost among the other estates. I don't see a future for Uitvlugt Estate unless some drastic rationalization takes place, you know what I mean?

I thought we had brilliant individuals on GNI who would wait for an investigation in the matter before pointing fingers at the PPP. I would agree if blaming the PPP will make an incompetent, unrecognizable dictator look good.

the best white sugar,next door was DDL,Doc the chemist

was a good friend of mine i used to get the best Liquor

to sample.

Uitvlugt Estate was the place of employment of my great grandfather from Rajahstan who was indentured there in 1881. His son, my grandfather, worked there until retirement in 1960. My father worked there from 1947 to 1986. And my sister worked in the pay office and DDL office from 1975 to 1999. So, for 118 straight years my family worked at Uitvlugt Estate. It was one of the best sugar estates in bygone years.

The cane gang might know and must see the metal weight before start loading. Investigation should easily prove  the source of this destructive act.

1990s: 11.2 tons of sugar cane produced 1 ton sugar. Higher sucrose content due partly to better drainage and irrigation.

In 1993, GuySuCo incurred employment costs of US$220 per ton of sugar.

In 1995-1997, production cost was US$0.23 per pound sugar.

In 1998, production cost was US$0.22 per pound sugar.

GAWU head confirms sabotage attempt at Enmore sugar factory

Upon making checks, head of the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers’ Union (GAWU) Komal Chand has confirmed that there had been attempts to sabotage sugar operations at the Enmore Sugar Estate, an entity of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCO).

The attempt to damage the factory's equipment has come at a time when government is trying desperately to keep the highly indebted sugar industry afloat pending a definitive course of action based on findings and recommendations by a Commission of Inquiry.

Last week reports surfaced that a heavy metal object had been placed among sugar cane stalks ready to be dumped over into grinders that will crash the cane.

When asked for an update on the matter and whether there was any truth to the report Chand told Demerara Waves Monday August 17, “Yes, yes, there was a boulder in the punt.”

He said however that, “It is very, very difficult to find out who did it.” The long standing sugar workers representative opined that the item placed in the punt, “was so heavy that it had to have been placed there by more than one person.”

Chand had called for an investigation into the sabotage act stating that the move by the culprit or culprits would further harm the ailing sugar sector.

 “We condemn any attempt to destroy or hinder production at the factory,” he told this news agency. He charged that, “At the end of the day, the main victims of any sabotage will be the workers, who have been home for weeks awaiting harvesting.”

Chand had said that the attempts were “totally unacceptable,” and called for the investigation. He said he would be making checks to find out what progress has been made with the probe
