Diwali 2016 date lands in controversy again

Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan.

Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan.

[www.inewsguyana.com] – 2015 is yet to conclude but already there is brewing controversy over the 2016 date for Diwali, with the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha saying it is October 30, 2016 and the Government saying November 29, 2016.

The Dharmic Sabha in a statement noted that a list of holidays for 2016 including Diwali as the 29th of November has been recently released by Vice President and Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan.

The Group however states that it was not consulted nor involved in any discussion with the Minister of Public Security.

“The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha wishes to express its disappointment at the manner in which Minister Ramjattan has declared the National holiday for Diwali 2016. As she always did, the late Angela Johnson, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, wrote to the Dharmic Sabha asking for the Phagwah and Diwali dates for 2016 and these were sent to the Ministry in September 2015; Phagwah – March 23 and Diwali – October 30. This was apparently ignored,” the release stated.

The Hindu Association is accusing the Minister of attempting to perpetuate strife and division within the Hindu community.

“We see this as an act to perpetuate discord in the Hindu community by the Minister. We had hoped the Minister would see the wisdom in engaging the Sabha and other large Hindu bodies (the Hare Krishna Movement, Guyana Central Arya Samaj, Maha Kali Movement) in declaring the Hindu holidays for 2016.”Diwali

For the 2015 date there was also a lot of controversy, which led to the issue being politicized. Ramjattan had issued a decree that the Diwali 2015 date would be November 10, but the Dharmic Sabha insisted that the date was November 11.

Guyana is not the only country that had issues over the date with one part of India observing Diwali on November 10 and another on November 11.

Bastards like this House Slave must be SPIT ON BY ALL HINDUS.  It is clear that this piece of RAW SEWAGE is determined to let neighbors fight/hate each other, let Villages fight/hate each other,  let Temples and Mandirs fight/hate each other.  THIS SHAMELESS FRIGGIN DAAG MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nehru

Lol.  I think the poor writer was so confused he mixed up the dates.  But all jokes aside, if Ramjattan was a good politician he would lay low and let this slide after the backlash we just saw two weeks ago.

Some local residents said that cars were driving around their neighborhoods to see who light diya on November 10 and who light on November 11.

It is customary in the month of November for the Ministry of Home Affairs to release a list of national holidays for the upcoming year. That list is used by businesses and religious organizations to print their calendars for distribution by Xmas-New Year.

If the 2016 list says November 29 will be Diwali Day, it is not final and official until the Minister signs off for the date to be published in the Official Gazette. That will happen around Oct-early Nov next year. So, there is a lot of time for consultations with the Hindu organizations.

Bear in mind that Guyana calendars normally show one date for Eid-ul-Adha but the new moon may not cooperate for that date, and the Muslim community understand that.

Here we go again.  Ramjattan has to understand that the Dharmic Sabha is the largest HINDU organisation in Guyana.  The evidence was dewali 2015.

75% of the hindus lighted their diya on the day Vindya Persaud called.

He got to park his ego and call the girl in for consultation.

Nehru, politics aside, it is the Ministry of Home Affairs that has responsibility for managing national holidays in Guyana.

At a personal level, Khemraj Ramjattan may or may not be the Minister of Home Affairs when the time comes for Diwali to be gazetted.

But the Ministry must respect the people.  They rule in the name of the people, not themselves and their egos.

This war with Vindi is only causing the Coalition to lose points with the Hindus of Guyana.

Maybe Khemraj is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder because he was promised the Home Affairs Minister position prior to the election.  When the cabinet was announced and he realized he was duped he took it as a shock.  But somewhere in his head, in the deep dark recesses of his mind he still thinks he is the Home Affairs Minister.
