The visit of a private sector official to the national assembly during the recent debate and passing of the local government and hydro bills resulted in expressions of consternation after the official witnessed  attacks against foreign investors and the Private Sector Commission (PSC) by opposition members of the house. During the sitting opposition members shouted from across the floor that foreign investors from the USA should get out of Guyana. In one instance opposition members were overheard shouting 'let them go'.

The official took particular offense at one comment by former Minister of Finance in the PNC  government, Carl Greenidge. Greenidge said the PSC should invest in the Amaila Hydro Project if 'they so believed in it'.

To this the official said that if he (Greendige) as Finance Minister did not help destroy the private sector during the PNC's term in office it would have been in a better position to be able to invest in the project.
