Actually when I was in Ukraine, they were much into Bollywood. Under the Soviets, seems Indian movies were few of the foreign movies allowed.

Russians are into boliywood movies big time. This Russian guy I worked with said when he was young his parents took him to many bollywood movies. He said when cinema sold out, they would put bench in the passage way and yes, Nuff eyewater as well.Empire and Liberty cinema style.

I'll watch this YT clip later. Raj Kapoor was a frequent VIP in the former Soviet Union. He shot his movie Mera Naam Joker there. Dharmendra acted as a circus gymnast alongside a Russian girl.

I agree. He must have married a coolie woman who dumped him. The reason for his hate of coolies. We have another GNIer who got dumped by a coolie woman.

Almost 5 years ago to the date, I saw Amit and his younger brother Sumeet Kumar Ganguly deliver a hair raising performance of their father's hit songs at Resorts World Casino.  The chips didn't fall far from the block.  One of the best concerts I ever attended.

Free concerts are always the best eh.

What they explained was during the Soviet era, there was limited view of the outside world. Indian movies offered that window.  Back then the movies were all family oriented so entire families would watch together.  They were entertaining and colorful. There was no nudity or foul language.  The governments wanted that.

It wasn't a free concert.  But quite inexpensive for the level of talent from the Ganguly brothers.  Sumeet's mother is the beautiful Leena Chandarvarkar.  He looks like her.
