Tiger Creek Bridge completed and in use
-but works still ongoing on approaches
The Tiger Creek Bridge in Region Eight has been completed, however, as a result of heavy rains works on the approaches are still ongoing.
A representative of the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) told Stabroek News on Wednesday that the bridge which collapsed while a heavy-duty truck was crossing in November 2020 has been completed.
He added that the bridge is in use but vehicles are experiencing difficulty navigating the steep descent and ascent of the approaches, which he says are not yet completed.
It was stated that the contractor has started corduroying the approaches in order to prevent deterioration but the constant rains are hindering works.

With all that money from the gold mining in this area, this is the bridge that they can build.

New Tiger Creek Bridge
A BRAND new Tiger Creek Bridge in Region Eight (Potaro/Siparuni) has been constructed at a cost of $24M. The old structure collapsed some time ago under the weight of a heavy-duty truck belonging to a major trucking company.
As a consequence, traffic into Mahdia and surrounding areas had to be closed off and the Ministry of Public Works had to put an innovative system in place for motor vehicles to pass. Such included the clearing of vegetation and creating a bypass road.

G$24M approx US$120 ,000 ,someone pocketing money for that type of construction.
What they call bridge and road leaves much to be desired. It's more like mud dam and planks. The PPP has become an embarrassment.
Cement and Steel must be quite foreign to Guyana.

Still cheaper than a lost life because of wood that rots out, especially if they got it "on sale'
Cost per foot to construct a new bridge varies in all parts of the world.
The cost per foot for the re-construction of a bridge do have additional costs because of the removal of existing works, realignment of the works, etc., to name just two of the many variables.
An average estimate for a bridge could be about US$$ 300,000.
Cost to replace a truck, it's contents, the driver......$$$$$$$$$

True. But with all the gold mined and the Royalties collected; the Rich and Famous that have the rights to the gold mines, US$300K is a small cost.
This is the 21st Century. It's not the Flintstone's and Dinosaur's era.
That bridge is an insult to modern day Engineering.
