The President should not  waste time with the APNU/AFC. It should call a General Election if the Budget is defeated. As I see it, and I've said this before, that the PPP should have ended the Tripartite crap it set up just after November 28, 2011 elections. The APNU/AFC has proved on several occasions that the Government is a BIG JOKE. They lack credibility and even tell lies in front of their own supporters.

Well, what else is new when the Government got a loser like Gail Texeira as a Presidential Adviser. She talks "balls" all the time. Maybe it's time she suck "balls".

Ashnie, Donald  and the  rest  of  the  PPP are all  fluff and  no  substance.  They would threaten   snap  elections but  does  have  the  balls to  carry  through with  such  threats.  A whole  term is  too much to  sacrifice for  convictions and  principles. Just  like  the  Goat man Rohee,  they would  obfuscate,  choke on  their  words or  find a  way  to  weasel  out  of  a  tight  corner.

The PPP will get 10 extra seats if a snap election is called. The Guyanese electorates already know who the culprits are. This song has been singing and it may come to pass for the sake of the Guyanese people. APNU & AFC take them rass and pass Ramotar. Ramotar should show them his godey is bigger than tamarind balls.

I know you are a poor study of our political reality. There are barely 3 more seats available to the PPP. That is what they will have readily available to fight for.

Those are in areas that are not easily captured. As it is they stand to lose more votes in region six and inroads into region 4 and 10 are dubious Those might be more easily claimed by the APNU.

It is back to bead trading with the hapless Amerindians for them.

The young people are not ignoramuses who would stream mindlessly after t he PPP as thought they were t he Pied Piper. They can see the PPP are more concerned with conserving their option to steal than with necessary explanations to the people as to how their money would be spent.

I did not mean three seats were available to them. Is said those are all that would ever be possible under our political climate. Sadly, for them at least, more seats are available to be lost than won. They are surely not getting a seat in linden with the current proposal to cut subsidy there and increase subsidy in region 6. Both groups lost out because of poor economy and  bad management so one should not be penalized while the other subsidized.

It is up to them to take the risk but chances are they will lose by greater margins. Divided government is here to stay. It works elsewhere, it can work here.

We know more than most of you there of the processes. Take a chance and ask your co workers who are the key players, what are the main points of concern or even what kind of electoral system we have and how it works. I bet 99 percent would not know.

That question was answered in the last election. It's even more nagative today.
PPP=APNC.

A snap election will benefit the PPP right now. The unions are upset with the combined opposition and Berbicians now see the AFC as being anti working class. Spin this whatever way you want but the PPP will benefit in an snap election.

We saw this here recently in Canada in the national elections where the minority government ended up with a majority since people became fed up with the opposition behaving exactly like what is happening in Guyana..

People want the country to move forward. They prefer to judge the government after their mandate.

Progressive cuts like cuts to state media and OP are reasonable. Cuts that directly affect the working class will not be supported. Guyana is still a developing country and we cannot "fit" a developed country model in Guyana.

The major unions have expressed anger at the combined opposition for cuts proposal and this only helps the PPP. The unions usually support the opposition and it is extremely unusual to see the union supporting the government.

PNC having Mr. Donkey cart economist Carl Greenidge at the helm of these debates drive fear among the masses who remember his days of making Guyana a basket case economy.

The opposition better be careful as to what they ask for. Reasonable cuts to OP and state media are supported.

I was under the impression they have deep reserve in a prosperous economy. I do not know how cutting GINA or Gail 10000 US a month "contract" wage affects their salary. Even with he GPL subsidy, you could have lowered it tremendously if you did not pay 90%  of the cost of the power plants as rent per year. Think what savings if you bought it. After all, 27 million   plus financial guarantees are given to the Proposed Marriott investors.

If the PPP wants to play hard ball and gamble on snap elections on a bunch of lies to preserve their graft status; let them.

The government felt it can present a budget on its own with no prior consultation and even arrogantly flaunted that they are not required to allow any one into that process. They did not.

They presented what was wholly their vision and pretended they are not a "minority" government obliged to consult, deliberate and agree as a group. Well, we see where that abuse of authority and presumption of autocratic power has them.

The ball is in their court since their behinds are laid bare and they must now sit down as rational gentlemen and hammer out some consensus. GINA is getting do funds anyway so that is off the table.

The voters in Canada gave Stephen Harper's Conservative Party a majority, because the Liberal Party took immigrants for granted for a long time. Immigrants do not vote for the Party that brought benefits that currently enjoy. I am speaking here of the NDP. They refer to the NDP, not as a working class Party which it is, but as a communist Party because that is what the Conservatives refer to them as. The Canadian voters forget that Canada has been doing business with China for a long time. The Canadian people forget that the shorts they wear and other items they use states, "made in China".

Do not forget that the Canadian election results is in question and this is receiving the attention of Elections Canada who are investigating the "ROBOCALLS" where it is alleged that election day the Conservative Party workers called voters to tell them that their polling station is incorrect and told them  where to go to vote.

Those cuts in subvention

April 26, 2012 | By | Filed Under Editorial

Guyana must be the most interesting place on earth. It is interesting to say the least because at the slightest agitation people mount protests. Sometimes these protests turn ugly because there are always people who are more incensed than others. The latter are the people who at the drop of a hat would become hostile to the point of confronting anyone who challenges.
These past few days during the budget debate there have been a series of protests directed at the parliamentary opposition. For the first time there is a situation in the National Assembly where whatever the government tenders as a national budget is not necessarily going to be passed. In the past, because of its majority the government would present its budget and irrespective of arguments would pass what it presents.

However, this time the parliamentary opposition has a say in what passes. The members want to see some cuts in areas that they feel are not in the national interest.  One of the areas, they see, is the use of state funds to operate the state media. For years, the opposition has been complaining that the state media was being used to promote only the interest of the government to the exclusion of any other.

The opposition, armed with the experience of what operates in the British Broadcasting Services and the Voice of America, two institutions funded by state money but free from state intervention in broadcast content, decided that this should also be the case in Guyana. But it is not. The off shoot is that the parliamentary opposition feels that the state media should collect its money from the market place, in the same way that the others do, and then feel free to broadcast what it wants.

News of the proposed cuts has brought out the staff of the state media, from top to bottom. These people are sending the message that there should be no budget cut for their operations. This is arrogance to the highest. When the government withdrew its advertisement from the private media these very state media employees batted nary an eyelid.

And with the loss of those funds the affected enterprise never sent its staff to the breadline. In fact, the government never considered that it would be placing people on the breadline and so be classified as anti-working class.
What it says is that there is self interest here. There is even a total disregard for media colleagues. Worse, people in the state media are of the firm belief that the taxpayer must give them money to pander to the dictates of the government to the exclusion of all those who opted not to vote for the government.

The opposition made its power felt Wednesday night and the candle light vigil by the staff of GINA and NCN did not matter. Indeed the opposition voted for them to get a subvention of one dollar each, a token sum.

The nation saw a similar set of protests when one of the opposition parties proposed that contract employees be cut. Again all the public servants, regardless of whether they were contract employees, took to the streets.

And more recently, people attached to the sugar industry took to the streets because the opposition parties are proposing cuts in the amount of money being allocated to bail out the sugar industry.

What is of interest is that in each case when the opposition suggested a budget cut in certain areas the government countered that the opposition was against the working class. In the case of the state media, the message that the government has sent is that members of staff will be put on the breadline.

The impression is that the subvention is crucial although the NCN administration openly stated that the $81 million subvention was a mere nine percent of revenue, that the company made as much as $800 million last year.

That would suggest that NCN is the most profitable media enterprise in Guyana and for its management to suggest that the cut in subvention would lead to job cuts is to stretch the imagination.

Sledge, I agree with you that if an election is called now, the PPP will win a landslide. That black woman who lost her job, all she can do is thank Khemraj and Granger for what they did to her. They should answer back and tell her ..she is welcome.
