Wins for Northern Rangers and Santos on opening day
Play in the Top Brandz Corona Beer Invitational Football Tournament kicked off on Sunday last at the GFC ground in Georgetown with three matches which saw opening wins for Northern Rangers and Santos, while the other scheduled game was drawn.
The Petra Organisation event saw Northern Rangers beating East Veldt 2-0 with an Own Goal (22nd min) and Sunil Logan (64th min) strike resulting in victory. Riddim Squad and Flamingo played out a 0-0 stalemate. Santos then dismissed Pele 4-0 with Robby McClaggon 9th min, Kenroy Deminick 11th min, Josh Parvattan 65th min and Orin Yarde 90+2 min the men on target.
The teams involved in the tournament are: GROUP A â Pele FC, Santos FC, Riddim Squad FC, Northern Rangers FC, Flamingo FC and East Veldt FC; while GROUP B â Western Tigers FC, Police FC, GFC, Camptown FC, Beacons FC and Black Pearl FC.
They are battling for a first prize of $1million and the championship trophy, while second to fourth take home $400,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
The tournament continues tomorrow at the GFC ground at17:00hrs.
Western Tigers FC face Black Pearl FC, followed by GFC challenging Camptown FC, then Police FC come up against Beacons FC.
