READING this report in Stabroek News on Sunday September 02-2011,
IT is heartening to (read in the newspapers on Sunday last) the President of Guyana saying the following:
βPresident Bharrat Jagdeo has expressed disappointment at the recent travel bottlenecks faced by Guyanese travellers using Caribbean Airlines (CAL), while saying that the government is still exploring avenues to establish a locally-owned air carrier.β
Mr. President, you cannot be more disappointed than those Guyanese travellers who have no other choice but to not only travel with Caribbean Airlines, but to tolerate what is meted out to Guyanese while intransit in Trinidad.
Mr. President, you see, when you have to travel with CAL they know you and treat you with respect but not so for Guyanese passengers like us.
Trini officials will never treat you like the common criminal and/or drug mule like they do Guyanese passengers like us, the innocent ones.
My skin crawled when I read how Trinidad will have a special lounge for Guyanese. Only to shove us in a corner so that we Guyanese cannot be heard or seen until we are ready to board their flight.
Mr. President for me, I know this has been going on from ever since 1989 to this day. For other Guyanese it's more like 1980 for them.
Time for exploration should have been completed yesterday and not tomorrow or next week or next month or next year, now is the time to make Guyanese proud to fly in their very own national carrier.
If the report is correct in saying 210 of the 229 passengers flew home safely after the fiasco in New York regarding C/A ,that alone must tell you how just 19 passengers were more important to be dropped off in Trinidad first and foremost than that of Guyanese.
This eye pass of Guyanese at the dirty hands of Trinis must abruptly end now.
