Trophy Stall Doubles picks up after rainy start

Despite the rainy and slow start to the Trophy Stall Doubles, the tennis community enjoyed high level double matches over the past week.
Men’s Doubles
Heimraj Resaul/Jordan Beaton will face off against Joshua Kalekyezi/Viraj Sharma in the semifinals of the Men’s Open Doubles. H. Resaul made light work of younger brother Vadeanand Resaul and Joshua’s younger brother, Jeremiah Kalekyezi 6/0 6/0 to reach the semifinals. Josh. Kalekyezi and V. Sharma defeated Levan Butchey and Anthony Amerally 6/2 6/3. They avenged the loss of Anish Sharma and Wayne Baker who loss 6/2 6/2 to the Berbicians Levan Butchey and Anthony Amerally.
On the bottom half of the Men’s Open draw, Philip Squires/Joseph DeJonge is the first pair to advance to the finals after a battle of will, endurance and stamina against Orande Dainty and Nicholas Glasgow. The match agonized over 2 hours in the grueling heat which ended in three sets 6/3 2/6 7/6(3). They then defeated Khalid Gobin and Dominic Fraser 6/2 6/1 in the semifinal. Gobin and Fraser had defeated Simron Lewis/Ravin Rampersaud as well as Leyland Leacock/Surendra Khayyam 6/2 7/5.
Ladies’ Doubles
Defending champions Cristy Campbell/Afruica Gentle are back in the finals after defeating young Kalyca Fraser/Nathalie Ramdyhan 6/0 6/2 as well as Patricia Hope/Simone Boucher. They await the winners of the bottom half of the draws. Currently, Fiona Bushell and Shelly Ramdyhan have a win in the quarterfinals against Diana Bharrat/Kizzy Richmond 6/1 6/0 and awaits the winner of Grace McCalman/Kury Cobham vs. Alana Chung/Sarah Klautky.
Mixed Doubles
The largest category for this year is the Mixed Doubles. The semifinals have featured some new partnerships such as Afruica Gentle and Devon Gonsalves who had a close call at 6/0 7/5 against Leyland Leacock/Kizzy Richmond. The other semi-finalist had an even closer call as Joshua Kalekeyzi and Alana Chung fought their way down a set to win 2/6 6/2 7/5 against Joseph Dejonge and Fiona Bushell. We await the winners of the other quarterfinals that will be played over the weekend.
Men’s Over 45 Doubles
Former GECOM Commissioner, Steve Surujbally and partner Robin Singh outplayed the Brazilian Ambassador Lineu Pupo De Paula and his Korean partner Lee Doo-Yell in the Men’s Over-45 Doubles. A close first set placed Surujbally and Singh on the back-foot, but they rallied to win 7/2 in the tiebreaker. The momentum went in their favour and there was no turning back. They closed out the game 7/6(2) 6/2. They face Godfrey Lowden and Anthony Amerally in the next round robin match.
Matches continued this weekend at the National Racquet Centre and Le Resouvenir.
