Washington (CNN)

Donald Trump on Friday continued his outreach to African-American voters, presenting them with a stark question: "What the hell do you have to lose?"

Speaking in Dimondale, Michigan -- a predominantly white suburb of Lansing -- Trump lamented the collapse of American manufacturing and criticized free trade deals as he laced into Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party, saying they are taking black voters for granted.
"You're living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58% of your youth is unemployed -- what the hell do you have to lose?" Trump asked the audience in an unscripted moment from a speech in which he otherwise stuck to his teleprompter.

While it is true that the Democratic party has failed the African American population, at least they have tried. The Republican party doesn't even care for the African American population. Trump is just using the 'reach out' to sway the white segment of the population who may not be supporting him right now back to him. If he was trying to reach the black voters, he would not be doing it in a predominantly white neighborhood.

That seems to me to be quite insulting.  Blacks were in this condition under Nixon, Reagan, Bush I and Bush II.

Does Trump think that blacks are that stupid?   Does Trump even acknowledge the reasons why blacks are poor?  How many blacks does Trump employ in high paying jobs?

Trump wouldn't be so stupid as to go to ATL and scream that foolishness.

In fact Trump wants to fool moderate whites that he isn't a bigot, but Trump being Trump cannot help but insult.

His campaign is going down in flames.

The man is to vexed that he lives in a country with a black president, and after he swore that Guyana wouldn't ever have a black president again, there goes Granger.

So he really has no idea that Biden himself has said that he wife is totally against him running for president, given their family tragedies (loss of 2 sons).

Trump is an idiot. How many fathers you know who would even think of much less say that they would date their daughter if it wasn't their daughter? Then it looked like he was trying to feel up her bt at the Republican National Convention a day after he tried to kiss Pence.

So I wouldn't put it pass Trump to think that he can fool black people with a stupid speech. It also tells volumes of his supporters.

Correct Caribny.

Let me add that Joe Biden had many regrets of not running for president. Hillary team met with Joe and talked him out of running. Bill Clinton was working behind the scene to save Hillary ass. Hillary wants to make history to be the first woman president, as Obama was the first Black. Obama made history and failed us at home and abroad. Hillary will do the same to import terrorist to kill Americans. The American voters will have to learn to avoid the same mistake twice in November.

The minute Trump said that if his daughter told him that she had been sexually harassed his response would have been to tell her another job I knew that he is an idiot.   Now which father would say that?

It is clear that the man hates women, and he hates non whites.

So finally you concede that Hillary will win.  Only problem is that in November only a GOLD medal will be awarded.

Carib bwoi, I never doubted that Hillary will win. I just thought that Trump might get around being civil and show empathy towards the unfortunate.

What are you talking about that the democratic party has failed Americans? That nonsense only sells with the Breightbart crow who could slander black people ie Shirley Sharrard, the NAACP, the President etc and seek to reverse civil rights with onerous laws to isolate black people. The republicans gerrymandered practically every congressional district so that black political power is furthered watered down and their news media simply denigrate them constantly as backward, brutes.

It is democrats who fight for a balanced court...democrats who sought to improve loans  and the republicans who manufacture stories that kill black advocacy without ever caring to address the necessity to understand what is going on in black community. Instead the people who crash the economy, the white wall street types who are unsurprisingly Republicans, who get the concessions!

Trump has a white anti black racist as his campaign staff who is well known for his anti black rants. He was a supporter of Cruz until the senator went to the border and handed out balls to the brown kids. That is Republican advocacy. Only the Democrats of late has stood with black peopel and that is reflected with 97 percent of them now standing with Mrs C. Casting the democrats as what is wrong with Black people will not get him any points.

The Democratic party has failed blacks.  That it isn't hostile to them as is the GOP is beside the point.

Every day I see broken people begging on the train, and I know that its because they bought into the lies told to them by white liberals.

Every day I see smart blacks having to struggle more than others, and having to charge less for their services.

This after we have had a black president for almost 8 years.

It is only the fact that a GOP regime will be even worse that ensures that the Dems control the black vote as they do.  If Trump loses, and the GOP doesn't destroy itself, a more nuanced group is likely to emerge knowing that election victories aren't guaranteed merely by seeking to depress non white and young voting.

That is when fresh and different ideas might well emerge.  You will be shocked to know how many blacks are just waiting for a GOP that they can work with.  Even Christie won 20% of the black vote when he ran for the first time.  A previous NJ governor (Todd Whitman) did even better than that.

I wasn't suggesting that the core belief of the Democratic party is not to advocate for African Americans because I believe they do. I was looking further down the path and think that they have failed in the results. Politicians as a whole talk a good talk but their actions don't always match their talk. That said, the Democratic party is still a better friend to African Americans than the Republican one especially over the past 8 years where the Republicans have become very fringe. Imagine the Tea Party was created as a fringe to the Republican one and now the Trump Supporters are a fringe to the Tea Party. People like Michelle Backman would be too normal around Trump and his supporters. However, there is need for more effective and efficient actions from the Democratic party. Hopefully Bernie Sanders has opened that discussion. I am a Democrat but I am also fiscally responsible so I can point to many areas of government spending where the result doesn't justify the spending. However, I still prefer a Democratic government especially when it comes to the Supreme Court since I am not in favor in a US version of Saudi Arabia. I love freedom too much.

Hopefully Bernie Sanders have opened that discussion. I used to listed to Sanders some 10 years ago when he had a radio program and he had the same ideas then that he was preaching on the campaign trail. There need to me more fiscally responsible behavior from the Democrats also. We waste way to much over here.

People need to cease to be ideologically centered and understand that no ideology has the monopoly on ideas.  Moderate Republicans bring as much to the table as do both moderate and left wing Democrats.

JC Watts, a black American, left the GOP when he saw that he was being used to disguise their racism.  He had many good ideas.

Advocating personal responsibility (which the left do not do as they refuse to acknowledge that all of us ought to have agency in our lives) is not in contradiction to advocating for more assistance to help poor people escape poverty (which the right don't do as they prefer to blame poor people for their poverty).

In the mid 90s I was part of a group of American and Caribbean black professionals who were flirting with the GOP as we were tired of the welfare poverty pimp politics of people like Rangel.  But then we encountered the base racism that is endemic within the GOP.

Now imagine if the GOP was more broad minded.  NYC wouldn't be a one party state and DeBlasio and Cuomo would actually have to produce.  Instead they engage in a frat boy squabble (mainly Cuomo's fault)  knowing that the Dems have the power, and so they have no real challengers.

This and the previous post by Carib are among his best on GNI. I have read them again and again. Lots of undeniable truth.

Classic. Kudos.

Trump lost his appeal to Afro Americans a long time ago. The Latinos are also lost. He fought an unnecessary and unjust battle with Muslims who love America.

African Americans are indeed awaiting for a republican who can be trusted and one who understands their problems and difficulties none of which has been created by them. It is the politicians, social, economic system and political leaders who have failed them. Racism is also a major part of this problem.

Tough times ahead for Turmp but it was worth a shot by him to appeal to African Americans. He rolled the dice.

Truthfully, I honestly believe that Obama should have at least attempted to do more for African Americans but I could be wrong since I not a political expert.
