Tola,
Don't bother with the naysayers, continue the good work you are doing to assist humanity. Some folks are too nosy and have the "crab in a barrel mentality"
It's better not to post your personal info on here....
Gilbakka would not betray your confidence, Tola. You know that. Don't give up. Sticks and stones can break your bones but words must never hurt you.
Correct Tola...no need to give any info to those intent on mischief.
But on the other hand, Jim Jones said to his followers " Trust me, the Cool Aid is delicious""
You should have tried it,we would have been saved from your stupid BS.

Okay, guys, don't derail Tola's thread.
Speak to the IDIOT but what is he going to do with the brain he has, he cant do differently!!!
Thanks guys. I know who I can trust on GNI.
Gil, my friend Peel-Neck [now living in your neck ah de woods] used to say, 'Words are winds, but blows are unkinds'. Don't mix him up wid Rubba-Neck, now living in NY.
It is very sad that some of us don't use our experience, skills and talents to help create a positive change in Guyana.
Unfortunately, many of us might not see this change in our lifetime, if it ever occur and the negativism the youth learn , might continue for decades in their lives, possible also with their children.
This is one of my saddest feelings when a youth die from hopelessness. We have so much to give them, yet many of us don't.
I don't trust charities in Guyana. I gave US$500 when there was the flood in Guyana and asked for a receipt but never got one. When I followed up I was told "don't worry maan de money was well spent I gave it to Mr XXX and I did not hear back from him about the receipt."
VVP, during that flood I went to Costco bought boxes of food stuff, dropped it off at an advertised location. I will not mention the location, I heard the items never reached the needy!! Not again!! I will pack my own Barrel and send!!!!
Charities are a way for the unemployed to scam the unsuspecting.

Lots of people got conned during that flood including me. The thing is the contribution was part of a church organization fundraising for that flood. Well I learned.
You are not the only one who got conned. I know someone who gave a cheque to a charity in Guyana. The cheque was cashed in Panama.
My advice to all Guyanese, if you have something to give to someone, please give it directly to the person in need. Don't give it to a charity to give them. They will NEVER get it.

So I bought a car from a Guyanese mechanic in Florida who was recommended to me. When it came to NY it had to be inspected and they determined that the engine was swapped out for an older one and the newer engine (the one I was supposed to be buying) was shipped in another car out of the country. The VIN number was also swapped.
Well, he got into big trouble and had to give me a major refund where he ended up losing on the sale.
Honest Guyanese are hard to find, but there are some.

There are many honest Guyanese around but they are hard to find as they don't advertise themselves....when ever I can I always give directly the the causes that need the help.....I don't deal with third parties.....

The fact that you got conned does not mean everyone are cons. Did you vet who ever you gave the money to? This happens everywhere. In the US, lot's of cons occur whenever there are natural disaster.
After the floods, I actually went to Guyana and met people I knew who lost a lot and I helped them directly. Through RHI (501C3) I also funded several families out of abject poverty to self sufficiency. I was always directly in touch and involved where ever I was in the world.
Like everywhere, there are cons and there are genuine people!
Many years ago I bought a car from a notorious car dealer in Richmond Hill. The odometer showed a mileage of 53000 miles. That car gave me endless troubles and thousands of dollars in repairs. In the end I had to donate it. I suspected the engine had more than a hundred and fifty thousand miles. A few mornings later the dealer was charged for fraud and money laundering.

Like I said it was a church that was collecting the money. The person claimed that he/she gave it to the charity but never got receipts. I can't remember all the details now.
Tola said you are not genuine, but I am sure you will claim that you are. No Guyanese getting donation from me anymore. It will be direct to the beneficiaries.
OR WAS IT tAX EVASION??

Sales Tax
Folks should still keep donating and assisting the needy in Guyana.
Just be careful whom you donate to especially the shady ones that refuse to send the name and registration number of their organization. They are the shady ones to be careful of.
The vast majority of charitable organizations are doing a good job. I always request a charitable tax receipt for my donations. It keeps the fraudsters out of the equation.
Tola posted:Similar to some on GNI, trusting someone in Guyana is not an easy task.Asking for assistance/information about an issue from some posters on GNI in confidence, who might be perceived to be trusting,-might not be a good suggestion. Because in time, that poster might use the information against you in another post.Whether in Africa, or Chiapas, etc., blacks or Mayan people seems more trusting and appreciative of resources given for their community development.Whereas, some Guyanese East Indians feels that overseas aid is an obligation to them and they can abuse the offer with their crookedness. This attitude leaves many funding agencies in frustration and some discontinue their work, leaving communities with incomplete projects.Itβs difficult to comprehend, that posters on GNI writing under anonymous names, would demand that information about posters volunteer work , that might reveal their identity, for possible more abuse, be displayed on GNI.This might benefit some, but when holes are perceived to condemn this work, instead of providing supporting comments. Their attitude displays the main reason for backwardness, thus preventing real growth in Guyana and on GNI.Warrior housing project is an example. Where resources and time was provided for this project. Instead of positive comments, some only found fault , causing his team not to reveal on GNI what else they are doing.Guyana is a very challenging place to do any community development, due to lack of trust and corruption, with limited resources that are difficult to obtain. It is obvious why posters do not reveal their personal activity on GNI, because there are some who are hell bent in finding something negative about it, as they might with this post.In other countries, projects are completed successfully with trusting community support. Unless the negative attitudes of Guyanese change for the better, Guyana might continue to see a degrade of overseas aid to develop its community, while these resources are routed to more accepting countries. The choice remains that of Guyanese in Guyana and overseas. It is most unfortunate that GNI is not used as a venue for positive change in Guyana. This might have been one of the website founder intentions. Many seems to understand the consequences of their actions, yet they continue on the same course and expect a positive change to occur.
You are a hypocrite posting this here. You claim to be involved in NGO work in Guyana on suicide yet all you did over the years is link every tragedy to an anti-PPP political agenda rant. You were making no headway, so you blame the PPP. Clearly, if that's your position, then you have no clue of suicide in Guyana or anywhere. When you got blow-back on GNI, you selective chose to attack others (including me) on issues which you have no clue or no business.
Just recently you went off the sh1t rails again. Stick to the work you are doing and stop seeking attention and maybe people will respect you more. Stop trying to piggy-back on others and show what you have accomplished. Don't post links to sites which you have nothing to do with. Don't hide behind others' skirts!
Post links to the anti-suicide seminars YOU held in villages with youths and their parents, teachers, ombudsman, etc. Post the agenda of these seminars, post the contracts where siblings, friends , parents, etc made to protect each other (brothers'/sisters' keepers), etc, etc. To date, no one have any clue of what you do except your illogical (empty-barrel) postings on GNI! You have been operating in (lil cunchy) Guyana for over a decade. You must have something!
And as for GNI handles, WTR is "Tola"?
This Chap Tola needs to come clean. Good Call, Base.
One way to tell if they are frauds is if they are unemployed and claim they are using money for charity. People who give honestly, don't talk about it and broadcast themselves. When people have empty pockets and claim they are giving money to people it really gives for a good laugh.

Sounds like the Tola type. What is so top secret about his charity or his alleged charity work ?
BTW, he uses the Nick Tola, his identity is already hidden/protected.
No one is asking for him to identify himself. Base asked all of the correct questions to avoid being conned by fraudsters.
Will Tola respond with terms like Trust etc ? What the hell is he hiding ?
Great point Yuji.

Bhai,
It is so important to ask the right questions before one becomes victim of fraud.
Every charitable organization has to be legally registered and provide a registration number. Plain and simple.
What is Tola hiding ?

Firstly, I'm not seeking anything from you or anyone. I do/did my work in Guyana and India without fan fair. Tola does not know me, but he post links to a charity which I am a board member. All charity work I do/did in Guyana were fully self-funded, my money from my bank account, directly to the families I "adopted".
Those families now self sufficient in Guyana due to my efforts are who/what matter to me, not what clowns, a-holes and jokers like VVP, Tola or anyone else think. Let Tola show his works! And yes, do as I did, go do it directly and see your handy work. It is rewarding!
Tola can hide if he please, I for one will not put one black cent in an Organization that says trust me blindly. It is that simple. Too many kackmen around.
