More action tonight at Ministry Ground

The Turbo Knockout Football tournament had fireworks at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground on Tuesday evening with two fiery clashes which left fans buzzing and anticipating tonight’s double header.

The first of the two matches on Tuesday witnessed a come from behind victory, as Linden’s Silver Shattas had a second half burst of energy that allowed them to overturn a 2-1 deficit to eventually defeat struggling city side, Georgetown Football Club (GFC) 5-2.
Things were finally looking GFC’s way following some disappointing performances after Jermaine Padmore (8th minute) and Curtis Kellman (27th) had place the men in blue 2-0 up before Robin Williams’ successful strike just before half time ensured that Shattas remained in the game.
Following the first break, Shattas played with more intent and tirelessly raided GFC’s defence, which was not shielded much by their tired midfielders except the combative Shaquille Bowen. Shattas’ Dexter Garraway scored a double in the 58th and 67th minutes to singlehandedly fire the men from the mining town ahead.
Superior fitness played a very big role in Silver Shattas win and as GFC’s players looked more tired, Shattas’ wingers and full backs sprinted harder as Damian Williams proved his hunger to get on the scorecard with a double in the 78th and 85th minute to take Shattas’ tally to 5 goals.
The second game, which Grove High-tech won 5-3 against Santos, was a very one sided affair despite the final score line. Santos never had a chance especially after starting a very poor goalkeeper that let in 3 goals in the first 11 minutes of the game without even attempting to save.
By then, Joel Dick (7th and 11th minutes) had two goals while, Lloyd Matthews, who has returned home to his parent club following a stint with Alpha United, scored in the 9th minute.
Orin Yard (21stmin) and Keith Cains (31stmin) scored to bring reduced Santos deficit but they could’ve never been afforded a good chance in the game with the terrible form of their goalkeeper that let in another goal in the 40th minute by Domini Garnett, to have the score 4-2 at half time.
Lionel Holder scored for Santos in the 74th minute, while Garnett completed his double during injury time in his team’s 5-3 triumph.
More exciting matches are anticipated this evening which will have a double header at the MOE ground from 18:30hrs. In that first match, Uitvlugt will match skills with Kuru Kuru in a West Bank vs. East Bank affair, while Riddim Squad with clash with Pouderoyen at 21:00hrs as these teams look to go one step closer to the $500,000 prize.
