Even though Hoyte had begun to turn Guyana around the PNC was there too long and needed to go.  Even many blacks in that era said "Give dem colllie a chance".

So in 2015 Guyana has reached another pivotal point. Clearly the politics of ethnic competition has been an abysmal failure, as Guyanese flock even to impoverished St Vincent, where the biggest cash crop is ganja, since its banana industry got into trouble.  Even though many of them are the grand kids of Vincies who migrated to Guyana to work in Bauxite, they arent too popular there, as Guyanese bring a desperation to survive, which these people dont appreciate.

So  Guyana needs a new model. One which admits that the ethnic insecurity issues of what is now 70% of the population, and declining, has held the nation's development hostage.  It means that we havent held our governments accountable.  We have been politically passive, post independence, when Guyanese were among the most assertive in the colonial era.  So we have had bad governance.

Well it is hoped that by some time lat tonight, or early tomorrow we will hear that APNU AFC i on the way to victory.

Guyana needs a break.

New people with a vested interest in introducing greater transparency, controls and accountability in how government functions.  If not they will be punished in the LGE, and pressure brought upon them to shape up.

A sense among Guyanese that the role of government, including the opposition, is to serve their needs.  Long gone should be the belief that if govt sells house lots that the recipients should feel grateful.  Or if a village gets a health center that they owe the gov't their undying loyalty.

I hope that people listened to Ulele's speech over the last few days.  If APNU AFC wins this should be mandatory listening. APNU AFC should not seek to merely replace the PPP.  They should seek to foster an environment whereby the population holds them accountable.

Those holding them accountable should not only be those who voted against them, but also those who voted FOR them. APNU AFC supporters shouldnt lambaste the PPP opposition because they offer criticisms of an APNU AFC gov't. They should analyze these comments, and acknowledge when there is merit.

This whole culture of "anti gov't" akin to treason, which Janet Jagan started, Burnham continued, and Jagdeo expanded, needs to go.  A patriotic Guyanese is one who gives credit where credit is due, but who also criticizes when this is necessary.  The fact that he might be an APNU AFC supporter should NOT stop him from being critical.

If APNU AFC wins I promise that I will be as sharply critical of them, when I see fit, as I am of the PPP.  The cultists can call me a "PPP" and I will NOT care.

Turnout today has been high, which bodes well for the opposition. The PPP/C has historically turned out in high percentages while the APNU turnout has been up and down. A high turnout can only mean they will have incremental votes. The AFC does not have that long history and their strongholds are not yet established, with the glaring example in Region 6 after Moses Nagamootoo joined that party.

Voting was heavy early and went smoothly over all. The two incidents reported of ballot box impropriety apparently was attributed to officers of the OP, and when are ballot boxes moved before close of poll?

In the run up to the elections today it was clear that there not only was an increase in enthusiasm, but the dynamic driving that enthusiasm was a yearning for change. The PPP/C did not offer a change of course from their procurement methods, contract bidding, tone of speaking to Guyanese, moving away from racial division, offering youths some hope different from what they've done with the Chinese, a clearing of the backlog of mysteries over shootings in the years of their watch, etc.

The APNU-AFC offered a radical change from the racial divide and lack of transparency of Government - whether it is to do with exploitation of natural resources or a rationale for the high VAT. It is clear also that in the use of social media the APNU-AFC coalition just smothered the PPP/C and it was an indication of how the young votes will go.

When the results are announced it will be the dawn of a new era in politics in Guiyana whether the coalition succeed or not in their campaign promises. For one ity will force a metamorphosis of the PPP and maybe in the next election cycle it will be about the issues and pocketbook matters and not race., finally.
