Asked whether the United States is prepared to intervene militarily should the Venezuelan Government maintain its stance, the US official said he would not want to speculate, or tread on such grounds, but maintained that the US will stand with Guyana’s government on this.

The U.S. Government will defend Guyana militarily?
If you read carefully, the U.S. Charge said he supports Guyana's position as in moutar supports their position. No commitments were made. He actually made a point of discouraging and rubbishing that notion of a military guarantee.
