UCAA/Roy Baijnauth T20 Number 43 Scorpions and Number 48 Challengers triumph

Cricketing fans in the Upper Corentyne area were treated much excitement when action in the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA)/Roy Baijnauth T/20 knockout competition gained momentum in that area.
In the match played at the Number 70 Young Blood ground on the Corentyne Coast, the #43 Scorpions made light work of the # 70 Young Blood when they defeated them by seven wickets. Batting first, #70 Young Blood were bowled out for 116 in 18 overs with Arjune Persaud 24 and C. Nandkishore 18, being the only batsmen to reach double figures. Bowling for #73 Scorpions Bhajpaul Deen 3-14, Farook Drepaul 2-25, Marcel Henry 2-28 and Ronald Pottaya 2-28 were the principal wicket takers.
In reply the Scorpions reached 123 in just 11.3 overs with Marcel Henry and Ronald Pottaya both scoring 40 not out.
Over at the Number 69 Red Rose Venue, Number 48 Challengers defeated the home team by 124 runs in front of a large crowd.
Batting first in brilliant sunshine, Number 48 Challengers scored 156 for 4 in their 20 overs with batsmen Devin Baldeo 43, Monesh Lalu 41 and Mandrekhar Bhola 39 being the leading run scorers. Bowling for #69 Red Rose, D. Seeram, Y. Prahalad, T. Narinedatt and M. Ramkissoon picked up one wicket each. Number 69 Red Rose were skittled for 32 in reply.
The Competition will serve to expose youths from all corners of the Upper Corentyne Area, and Mr. Hamant Jagdeo, President of the Association, is optimistic that the Association will be returned to its glory days.
He is pleased at the support his Association has received so far from the teams as well as the community and is urging all members of the business community to support the initiatives taken by the UCCA. He advised that promoting the game of cricket in the Upper Corentyne area will work as a stimulus for keeping youngsters off the bad habits, and encouraged them to make good use of their talent.
Twelve teams have so far qualified for the next round.
