Community service can be far better than prison. In prison you just sit around. For community service you got to work for hours on end for no pay. And the threat of going to prison if you fail to show up at any time or misbehave is an even bigger deterrent. Prison is not a deterrent. It can turn you into an even bigger criminal.
Exactly! They now have to repay society not sit around in prison coming up with plans for the next job.
