Workers of all categories claim there is word making the rounds that if this target is not achieved, the Government might move to close this estate as well, leaving hundreds of workers on the bread line.

Under-capacity
He continued: “We are not getting any new parts at Uitvlugt, it’s sheer old thing. When we doing maintenance, we are using a lot of old parts, cutting thing and putting it back. As for bolts and nuts, we don’t have (those) right now. We have to (re-thread used ones). So, I don’t know what they are talking about (producing) 40,000 tonnes (of sugar),” he stated.
Financial security
The harvester also pointed out that hiring more people would not solve the problems at the estate. He said the estate caters for between four and a half and five tonnes of cane per harvesting, and if there are two gangs to deliver canes, the estate could get at least 16 hours of grinding and manual loading.
Mana said the estate could achieve the 40,000 tonnes production only if enough cane is there to support the production, and that expansion has started.

them indians have to chase the ppp and start negotiate with the government in earnest keep politics out of the sugar industries
What a complete ASS!!!
The PPP stated at least 10 years ago that they were going to shut down Demerara sugar. People need to be reminded of this.
PPP stooges need to ask the PPP why the PPP never implemented transition measures. But the PPP stooges are too afraid to confront Jagdeo.

Don't throw statements at random and hope people would believe. As usual you have no proof of what you are saying. Accept that the PNC are incompetent and unqualified to run the sugar industry the only direction they know to go is to the ground.
The BIGGEST, DUMBEST STOOGE and Stupidee Bill come here talking his usual CRAP!!. Look in the mirror JACKASS!!!!!!!
Yudhisthira Mana: This man looks like Fip Motilall. Looks like someone made a mistake.

Jagdeo justified his sqandermania on Skeldon based on concentrating sugar in Berbice. Long ago it was announced that the soils in Demerara are too acid and less suitable for sugar than those of Berbice.
But you can remain a PPP slave. Let the PPP back in and you will be shocked at how quickly estates are closed. But then being a PPP save you will scream that of course they must be closed as they are unprofitable. Anything that Lord Jagdeo screams that you should say if you are to remain a "good little Indian".
Also PPP slave tell us why if the PPP was so competent that sugar production in 2014 was LESS than it was in 1992. Note that this was AFTER hundreds of millions of US dollars were poured into the industry in terms of bailouts, loans, and guarantees.
Tell us why Guysuco was on the brink of bankruptcy in May 2015 and had to beg gov't for funding to meet payroll.

Bai, wid you brain, you would turn Guyana into a high tech hub in a couple of weeks. Quit your job, sell everything and return to Guyana. Invest every penny you have, PNC will make you richer than Bill Gates and Donald Trump combined.
Clearly, the PNC Gov't is setting up Uitvlugt for failure. It's just a matter of time before the wheels come to a screeching halt. A question for the PNC crew - What is the Gov't plan for the workers who are being displaced?
