The police in Berbice are hunting for a male suspect, who broke and entered the dwelling house of a Corentyne man on Tuesday and robbed and raped him.
According to information reaching the News Room, at about 04:30hrs, the 22-year-old victim, who migrated from the United Kingdom to Guyana, was awoken by the sound of someone breaking the window.
Upon checking, the victim observed a man standing outside of the house who ordered him to open the door. According to reports, the victim became fearful and raised an alarm but got no response from neighbours in the area. News Room understands that the suspect could not get inside the because of the grill on the window and as such, he used a cutlass to pry open the door.
The victim claimed that the suspect, who was dressed in a short pants, vest and a hoodie, then forcefully had sex with him after which he fled the scene with the his [victim’s] cell phone and $2,800 in cash. The victim said he has no idea who the suspect is as he could not see the face due to the hoodie.
The police were called in and they visited the scene and escorted the victim to the Skeldon Public hospital where he was examined by a doctor, who confirmed that he was indeed sodomized.
Back at the scene, several persons were questioned by ranks but no useful information was provided. Investigations are ongoing.
