Two months have passed since a fire destroyed the historic Umana Yana in Georgetown. Arson was widely suspected while the Fire Department said the fire was electrical in origin. Some critics opined that arson can still take the form of an electrical "fault."
Culture Minister Frank Anthony had promised readily that the Umana Yana would be rebuilt. He has been strangely silent since then. When will the benab be rebuilt?
It was, and still is, widely believed that some powerful interests felt that the Umana Yana was obstructing the view of the highly controversial Marriott Hotel and had to go.
This recent photo shows a clear view of the Marriott with no benab obstruction.
