The careers of Umrao, like other young promising cricketers from Berbice, are closely followed by a group of Guyanese living in the State of New York, USA and in response to his rapid progress and discipline, he was gifted a quantity of cricket gears to assist with his further development.
The gears consist of one cricket bag, one New Balance bowling boots, one Nike batting boots, one thigh pad, one CA bat, one arm guard and bat rubbers among other cricket related items.
The sponsorship was provided by: Chin Singh, David Sookrah, Ramo Singh, Chris Ganesh, Brodo Kunjal, Mukesh Matai, Goordial Matai, Valdat, Buddy Permaul, Katch, Pampo Karan, Wally Bascom, Devan Ramlall, Shan and Dowlatram.
At a simple presentation ceremony held, Anil Beharry, former Berbice senior all-rounder who also served as Berbice Cricket Board President, and on the executive committee of the GCB and Young Warriors, thanked these honorable gentlemen for following closely the progress of young cricketers in Guyana, Berbice in particular with the hope that sometime the West Indies Cricket team can once again dominate world cricket.
Many of them are also involved in charitable organisations that lend support to people in the country of their birth.
They wished Umrao well and hoped that this can motivate others to do likewise, and promised to continue supporting young cricketers based on the recommendation of Beharry.
Umrao in response thanked the sponsors and promised to do his best on and off the field. He added that the gesture is very timely as his career is moving a pace.
This follows assistance given recently to Alex Algoo with funding from the same group, national player Gudakesh Motie Kanhai, sponsored by Bobby Deonarine of Tenelec and National youth all-rounder Kevlon Anderson who was sponsored by Lower Corentyne Secondary School Old Students of the USA.
