UN delegation visits Venezuela to address Essequibo border dispute

A delegation of the United Nations (UN) landed on Tuesday in MaiquetÍa SimÓn BolÍvar airport in Vargas state, Venezuela, to continue mediating in aborder dispute between Venezuela and Guyana over the territory of the Essequibo.
The UN committee, headed by Susana Malcorra, Chef de Cabinet to the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, will be in Venezuela until October 14. Malcorra was welcomed by Venezuelan Foreign Vice-minister for Latin America and the Caribbean, Alexander YÁnez, and Roy Chaderton, a representative of the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Malcorra met on Monday with representatives of the Guyanese government. Her visit to Caracas is a follow-up mission, in accordance with the schedule established by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon after meeting with the presidents of Guyana (David Granger) and Venezuela (NicolÁs Maduro) last September 28, state-run news agency AVN highlighted.
