Notwithstanding the actions of some Palestinians, the responsibility of Israel to correct their actions is still valid and should be honored. Israel has been for a very long time the powerful player in the longest standing conflict in the Middle East. Granted that the Israelis don't subscribe to the books of the New Testament so they would feel no obligation to respect Luke 12:48 â€œBut he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more”  but that is how it usually is.

Obama may have been late but kudos that he did it as it was way overdue for the greatest nation in the world to take a decent stand on this conflict.

Of note ...

1. Shortly after WWII, the decision was to create two separate states -- Palestine and Israel.

2. in 1948 Israel proceeded under the leadership of Ben Gurion to unilaterally declare itself an independent country.

3. Meanwhile and until today, there is yet to be declared the independent state of Palestine.

Also of note ... around WW I - One - urgent discussions on the formation of the two states of Palestine and Israel took firm stand which however failed in 1948.

Israel already stated that it will not abide with this resolution and why should it? For over 50 years, Israel has been allowed to defy multiple UN resolutions as they raped the land away from the Palestinians. As idealistic as the United States is in championing human rights, it also have the shameful legacy of legitimizing the abomination illustrated below. And don't for one minute think that people in those little green dotted areas in the 2010 image live freely. They are patrolled by Israeli military police 24/7 365 1/4.

Israel is a Middle East bully because of the United States. Imagine in America, how many people go hungry on a daily basis, depend for a handout from other people? And here we have the US government ignoring this and giving money to Jews to kill our Palestinian brothers. What happens to "charity begins at home"? Why is our education falling behind other countries? Why can't this blood money be spent on education and homelessness instead?

Simple. Lobbyists. Shameful how many churches over here support Israel killing Christian Palestinians. While it is not difficult to understand why churches over here would have no problem supporting Israel killing Muslim Palestinians but it is hard pressed to understand why they support them killing Christian Palestinians except that they see those Christian Palestinians as collateral damage.

...why did he wait so late to act when the Obama administration will have no role going forward.  This issue should have been acted upon in such a strong manner early into the 2nd term.

Israeli apartheid must be confronted and the rights of the Palestinians must be respected!

Obama is, contrary to Israel, not a party to this but it is clear he is against the expansion of settlements. This has been the policy of all US presidents. They are just making shi.t up. The change here is Obama did not veto the UN resolution.

Israel is the sore on the backside of the world. Radical Muslims may be the religious nuts we do not tolerate but we tolerate a similar fanaticism in Israel for no reason except we want to maintain the fantasy that they do not manifest similarly.

The Israeli positions are  not reconcilable with reason or tolerated in any expression of modern politics any place else so any pretense  of a reasoned opinion here is plainly treading on hypocrisy. Here are a people using the argument from primordialism to claim territory when we do not let the same argument manifest itself anywhere else without howls of protest about illegal incursions etc. Israel's intent is to appropriate the lands completely from the sea to the Jordan river. Their howl here is because of the history of looking at what they do through rose colored glasses.

Of course it also happens because there has never been any sensible authority representing the Palestinians. There is no Dr King or Ghandi on their side able to mobilize public sentiment for their cause. They chose to fight rather than build a non violent and powerful representation of the indignities they face because of their religion and culture. They are their worse enemies and while I disagree with Israel I will not stand with the Palestinians as they are represented. If they did of fight the jews could not deliberately exclude them. By sheer numbers they could win.

LET the games begin.

I do not believe the actions of Obama did not have a hood-wink from Trump!  Trump stayed away from any blanket endorsement of Israel during the campaign prompting some to say he is anti-semetic.

Obama's parting shot will put a few cards in the hands of Trump in dealing with Israel! Maybe we see another before Jan 20th!  Netanyahu got a good taste of who is president!  I congratulate Obama on this move!

Trump daughter and son in law are orthodox jews you can bet they will put pressure on him to be soft on israel.

There are Jews in Israel who want peace with the Palestinians.  I can see Trump wanting his daughter and son-in-law written in history and this might be his horse.  This is where Trump's big ego could actually serve others well!  Trump also wants his name in history!

Trump will thank Obama for this resolution!  Israeli lobbyist and supporters within his own party will try to stymie his efforts if he gets tough with Israel.  Israel will have to play ball as this is UNSC (Russia, China, France, UK and other), not US Congressional action.

Once again, I commend Obama on this and hopes this rumored 2nd resolution also goes thru!  Netanyhu and his settler-class bullies can go suck it up!

I think that if the US were to parcel off a piece of land that allows the Palestinians to live in dignity that is autonomous and free from the intrusion of the Israeli military the Palestinians would be happy and grateful. It has to be sufficient and not scattered or appear to be Israel's throw away trash. So far, all we have done is tell the Palestinians to eat Israel's trash or starve. I post again Israel's atrocity over the past 6 decades.

Here is the Kuwait area that Saddam Hussein invaded which eventually caused the destruction of his Republican Guards, country and life. Yes, that little area marked out in red.

Justice is supposed to be blind or it really isn't just.
