Father of three gets 45 years for rape

September 12, 2015 | By | Filed Under News

A 40-year-old father of three, was yesterday sentenced to 45 years in prison, after he was found guilty of two counts of rape. Sean Trotman was on trial before Justice Roxanne George-Wiltshire and a mixed 12-member jury at the High Court in Georgetown for the rape of a child under 16 years. The victim was said to be a young relative. The incidents are said to have taken place some time in January 2013 and March 2014.  Trotman’s trial was held in camera. However, following a summing up of the evidence by the trial judge and deliberations by members of the jury, the verdict was announced to an open court, yesterday. The verdict in relations to the first count of rape, was 10-2 but unanimous for the 2nd count. Following the announcement, the judge asked Trotman, if he had anything to say. The man stood firmly in the docks and responded, “Yuh worship I don’t know anything about this case.” Trotman then clarified that he does know anything about the allegation. The man claimed that he would never do such a thing since he has children—— five of them— including a one-year-old baby and a five-year-old daughter. He told the court that the victim’s mother had concocted the story and put her up to it. “I love my children. I would never do something like that,” Trotman said as he pleaded with the court. However, before handing down her sentence, Justice George-Wiltshire stressed the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.  The judge noted that the events are far too prevalent, and would in most cases, leave the victims to cope with many issues. The judge told Trotman that since he was found guilty of rape a strong message must be sent to society, especially to perpetrators of such crimes. She noted, too, that in committing the act against a close relative, Trotman had abused his position of trust. While handing down the sentence, the judge took into consideration the fact that Trotman had never been in prison for the offence—he has been on bail since his first appearance at the Magistrate’s court. As such Trotman was sentenced to 20 years in prison on the first count of rape and 25 years for the second count. His sentences will run consecutively. The case was presented by State Counsel Shawnette Austin.

CRIMES GALORE IN GUYANA UNDER THE PNC/AFC: RAMJATTAN CLUELESS:

Duo hijack car from Diamond hire car driver

Devon Haynes, a hire car driver in Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD), is left distraught after two male passengers hijacked his car on Thursday evening. The incident occurred sometime around 22:50h.

Speaking with Guyana Times, Haynes of 11th Avenue, Diamond, said he was working in the scheme when two men entered his car followed by a female and another male. He noted that the last two persons who entered the car were known to him and so he proceeded to drop off from the spot used by hire car drivers and headed into the scheme.

While in the vicinity of Fourth Bridge, the man said he slowed down and enquired from the passengers whether they were all going to 21st Avenue but there was no response. As such, he continued to the last street in the scheme where he dropped off the female first, followed by the other male passenger.

“So I asked the next (two) where y’all really going bai, where y’all coming off. One said he going 17th Street, the next one said he going 19th Street. So I turn and tell them I already pass there, where y’all really going,” Hayne related.

Nevertheless, the man noted that he used the access road to the northern end of the scheme heading to 19th Avenue, when the passenger in the front seat pulled the gear stick causing the car to run into some mud on the side of the road.

“The car ran and got stuck there. The one in the front seat telling the one in the backseat “tek out the gun fat man, tek out the gun Gangsta”. He then turn and tell me “we aint really want shoot you, is the car we really come fuh, come out this car”. So I turn and ask them is what really wrong with y’all,” Haynes recalled.

He went on to detailed to Guyana Times that the one is the front seat continued talking to his accomplice in the backseat, saying that if they had to, they would shoot him. Haynes added that the man then opened the car door and pushed him out. He noted that before the duo drove off with the vehicle, the men relieved him of his days earnings which amounted to about $20,000.

The 37-year-old man added that he called a few other drivers who also work taxi in the scheme and they came in the scheme to help look for the car. However on their way in, they saw the car heading out of the scheme and chased the car heading to Georgetown but lost track of it at Farm on the East Bank.

Haynes said he ran all the way to the Golden Grove Police Station, which is located at Third Bridge in the Scheme, where he reported the carjacking. The ranks there then alerted Police stations along the East Bank about the hijack.

Haynes noted that while he does not know the two hijackers, he says he can recognise them if they are in front of him. He explained that the one in the front seat was slim and about five feet, seven inches tall while the one in the backseat was a bit “chubby”, averaging about five feet, three inches in height. Both men appear to be in their late 20s to early 30s, Haynes recounted.

According to the distraught man, he only acquired the silver Alliion, bearing registration number HC 3569, about 14 days before it was stolen. He noted that he has been working taxi in Diamond for about three months now and has never been attacked or robbed before.

The taxi driver noted that he usually comes out to work in the afternoon and works through the night until about 02:00h to 03:00h in the morning. Haynes is pleading for anyone with information on the hijackers or the whereabouts of his car to contact the nearest Police station. (vahnum@guyanatimesgy.com)

The PNC will prove to be a disaster, you will see.  They are getting nothing right.  They follow voodoo economics and are being outwitted by the criminal enterprise.  Within a year, the PPP will look shine.

The PPP made it easy for criminals to acquire weapons without much trouble. It is going to take a lot of effort to combat armed criminals and bring things under control. Decades of PPP neglect in the police has decimated crime control. Even the drugs sniffing dogs at the airports were replaced by the PPP with dogs that were not trained for the job.

The PPP is actively encouraging crime in order to attempt a coup. The PNC gave their gangs cutlasses in the 60s and 70s. The PPP dishes out guns and automatic rifles instead. They got the money and the connection to bring in those weapons.

You hit it on the button when you say that the PNC will be a disaster. They already looks like a disaster.
