A West Coast Berbice man was yesterday found chopped to death in the kitchen of his home located in Number Three Village, West Coast Berbice.
Dead is Surojdeo Deochand, also known as ‘Sagie’, 68, of Lot 35 Number Three Village. According to relatives, Deochand suffered a severed right hand along with chops injuries to his face and belly.
The police last evening confirmed that there was an “incident” at the location and that the Commander of Region Five, Senior Superintendent Kurleigh Simon was at the scene.
The police today issued a wanted bulletin for Mark Anthony Henry, 24, in connection with the matter. His last known address is Lot 32 South Public Road, Mon Choisi, West Coast Berbice.
Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Henry is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 227-2603, 226-6978, 226-6221, 219-3252, 227-1149, 225-8196, 268-2328, 268-2298/2222, 226-7065, 911 or the nearest police station.
Deochand’s relatives said that the pensioner resided alone. However, one relative related that they were informed at approximately 5.30 pm yesterday afternoon of the discovery of the man’s body. “The police tell we he na dead but when we go [Fort Wellington] hospital he done wrap up.” According to the relative, the body has since been transported to Bailey’s Funeral Home, awaiting a post- mortem examination.
Deochand was one of the persons initially arrested for the murders of cousins Joel Henry and Isaiah Henry. However, after being held for 72 hours, Deochand, who resided next door to Joel Henry, was released from police custody.
Mark Anthony Henry, for whom the bulletin has been issued, is a relative of the Henry cousins.
Deochand, a father of two, was described as an easy going pensioner.
