US congressmen, senior military officers to visit Guyana

A congressional delegation from the United States is due to visit Guyana shortly for what State Minister Joseph Harmon has called a “familiarisation visit.”

“My understanding is that it is a familiarisation visit,” Harmon told a post-Cabinet press briefing, where he announced that a team of about “seven or eight” congressmen would be part of the delegation.

Although he promised that he would issue a press statement with additional details on the makeup of the delegation, up to press time this had not been done.

Harmon said that it was Minister of Natural Resources Raphael Trotman who informed government that the team and some senior military officers would be visiting and he said the government believes that the visit is demonstrative of the confidence by the international community in Guyana.

When contacted, the U.S Embassy, through its Public Affairs Officer Amanda Cauldwell, would only say, “The Department of State and US embassies around the world routinely support the travel of us government officials and their staff to other countries.” Cauldwell added that there was no further information available at this time.

Harmon said that government is making arrangements for the visit. “We are basically making arrangements to receive these very senior lawmakers of the US. I believe what it does is it signals a growing confidence in the relationship between our two states and the fact that there is a growing number of US companies that are operating here in Guyana, that the lawmakers would want to come to see what is taking place,” he said.

“So, I believe that it is quite normal but I think what it does is it signals a very clear indication of Guyana’s importance on the US international scene that eight… would actually choose to come at one time,” he added.

They are there planning the intervention/overthrow in Venezuela.  That was the next shoe to drop after the overthrow of the Government of Guyana in 2015.🙁

I thought the government was changed by free and fair election in 2015.

Seems like you know otherwise bhai.

The US buys 600k barrels of oil per day from Venezuela. I believe they planned to stop buying from the Venezuelans once they can access Guyana's oil. I could be wrong.  It could be they are there for business as well as trying to maintain stable political climate. The PNC does not command majority support in Guyana and that is a big problem for the government.  They only way they can stay in power is through rigging and that is not going to go unnoticed. Don't be surprised if the Americans turn their backs on the AFC/APNU in 2020.

And neither does the PPP.  They lost the majority in 2011 and again in 2015.  With each election the Indian vote declines.  Who knows what the Amerindians will do now that the PPP lacks the largesse to buy votes from them.

Then tell us why the US find it necessary to send military officers there. I suspect a limited education has inhibited your ability to think objectively. US is known not do do something for nothing. You sloppy boys too quick to sing their praises while missing the bigger picture.

I hope that this visit is to ensure that China does not get a foot hold in this small population country in the West.  East Indian Guyanese must realize that there is a big difference between Guyanese Chinese and the China Chinaman.  The aims and objectives of East Indian people world wide runs contrary to the aims and objectives of Communist China.  Regardless of what they say.

I presume the US delegation will pay a courtesy call on the Leader of the Opposition who represents 49% of the electorate.

And when delegations visited the opposition parties when they collectively represented 51% the PPP didn't handle that well. Screams and rants about foreigners interfering with the rights of a sovereign nation.

I know that you are back with the PPP and are contrite that you fled that plantation and so very determined to now be a loyal slave.  A PPP supporter cannot pretend with seriousness that when they were in power they thought that external entities had a right to speak to the opposition parties.  The PPP felt that they (with 49% of the votes) had a sole mandate to determine what happened with Guyana and what access that entities had.
