US says has provided US$4m for Venezuelan refugees here
The United States says it has provided nearly 4 million USD for humanitarian assistance to Venezuelan refugees in Guyana since Fiscal Year 2017.
Funding, according to a release today from the US Embassy, includes increasing Venezuelansβ access to legal status, furthering social integration in host communities, and bettering support and access to social services.
Programme Officer Rebecca Alvarado from the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration at the U.S. Department of State visited Guyana December 9-10 to meet with government officials from the Department of Citizenship, the United Nations and other international programme partners. The release said that the visit underlines the U.S. commitment to assist vulnerable Venezuelans and host communities complementing Guyanaβs generous efforts to manage the impact of the crisis in Venezuela by providing critical social services and protection.
