VAT reduction will not benefit low income earners

The opposition's clamour for a reduction in the VAT is a gimmick.

The basket of a low income earner consists of mainly

1.Transportation

2.Mortgage/Rent

3.Basic food items

4.Utility Bills

All of which generally does not attract VAT.

So any reduction in VAT will not be to their benefit unlike what the opposition is claiming.

But it is the high income earners who purchase luxury items that would be the beneficiaries of any reduction

I have to give Ramotar credit for maintaining the VAT. Cutting the VAT is not a good idea.
