Quincy Letlow being dragged to the Police van by the two cops

A fish vendor seen in a video being beaten by the Police as he resisted arrest, is accused of stealing a Snapper worth $6,000 from another vendor at the Meadow Bank Wharf on the East Bank of Demerara.

Thirty-three-year old Quincy Letlow of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown was badly beaten by two Police officers – one in plain clothing – as he resisted arrested at around 06:00hrs Thursday at the wharf.

Part of the incident was captured on video by persons in the area and shows the plainclothes cop beating the fish vendor on his face and hands with a pair of handcuffs.

The video shows the two cops trying desperately to arrest Letlow and to place him inside the Police van; Letlow was pinned several times on the ground as the cops laid on top of him.

The scuffle between him and the cops resulted in Letlow’s pants coming off and he is observed being beaten as he stood in his underwear and T-shirt in full view of other vendors and members of the public.

At one point, the plainclothes cop retrieved his firearm from the Police van and pointed it in Letlow’s face as he continued to resist arrest.

Another vendor is observed in the video speaking to Letlow after which he entered the Police van and was escorted to the Police Station.

Letlow was subsequently released on self-bail. Police Headquarters in a brief statement Friday stated that the Office of Professional Responsibility is investigating the incident.
