Definition of VAT... Is it really 16%?
A ream of copy paper that a student uses to print his or her school work is sold by an importer in Georgetown for G$1000 per ream. When 16% Vat is added, it costs G$1160.A second vendor purchases it and takes it to another area and sells it for G$1400.When 16% Vat is added this item costs G$1624.Before this item goes in the student's hand, a total of G$384 is paid for in Vat (38%).This ream of paper eventually cost this student G$1624 which is a 62% price increase from the original price of G$1000.This is not only for paper but so many other products that poor people needs for survival. Is this any form of progress?
