Dear Editor,

The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) runaway train, where they believe they can do anything to persons who were employed by or supported A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) Coalition Government, will have to reach a stop. For running ‘loco’ (mad) will lead to its own derailment and disastrous consequences. Their extremist behaviour as a government will only give rise to conflicts and tensions in the society.  This seems to be their ultimate agenda to continue their divisive politics along the lines of race, class, geographic and political association.

The PPP/C is reminded here and now that many governments that espoused those kinds of tendencies eventually fall to the power of the people, though they desperately try to hold on to power by nefarious means and compromise elections. What is unfolding before our eyes gives the impression that the PPP/C government has finally thrown aside the façade of good intention and tolerance. Their greatest intolerance and attack seem to be on African Guyanese.

The PPP/C is exposing their true nature of total disregard, subjugation and control which became glaringly evident under the Bharrat Jagdeo government. This is being accelerated to a grossly unhealthy state of political management post-election under the Irfaan Ali government for whom there is no excuse and full responsibility given. They are demonstrating a wicked mind towards workers of the African community and those who express opinions not consistent with their interest (and deceit). Former acting CEO of NICIL Colvin Heath-London has become the latest target. He was placed in police detention last Friday and will likely spend part if not all the weekend there.

Earlier last week Tellisa King, a young hinterland resident and journalist of a community radio station, was fired for expressing on her Facebook a personal opinion on a public matter (electricity). These incidents are not going unnoticed. They follow several of such nature in the last four months of the Ali administration and have become the norm. Already hundreds of families are suffering because of the vindictive and intolerant politics, the spill off which will be seen early in small societies such as ours.

The Ali government is willfully creating and deepening a divide which threatens the development of this nation.  The Machiavellian type of politics he is playing is seeing constant firing of workers, constant weekend lockups, and deprivation on trumped up charges and flimsy excuses that will keep persons under inhumane conditions. It is unacceptable! This is not the way of a caring government. This is not the way of a government seeking peace.

The repeated violations demonstrate a clear provocative intent to drive fear and stifle dissent and free voices in society. The abusive, lawless, and reckless actions are designed to throw red meat to supporters or those who desire political vengeance, with a misleading narrative of pursuing persons who violated the laws. The PPP/C wants the world to believe a group- that represents approximately half of the population and primarily do not support their politics- cannot be trusted and some have committed crimes against the state and must be punished by the state. They want their supporters and the world to believe these persons are not worthy of their entitlement, respect and dignity accorded them under the law. This kind of politics has met with challenges in the United States of America and has been defeated at the polls in 2020.

This opportunity is taken to draw a comparison between the previous government and this. When the Coalition entered government, audits and investigations were conducted. Individuals who served in public offices and were perceived to be of material consequence to the process were invited by the police to assist in the inquiries. At no time were persons, who were suspected of, engaged or alleged to be involved in corruption, money laundering and other crimes against the state, detained or their passport seized. The inquiries, and where charges were made, were done with some degree of professionalism and respect for the dignity and rights of the accused.

Even as these public harassments and government excesses continue, former president and Leader of the People’s National Congress/Reform, David Granger remain noticeably silent. His silence on such matters of grave concern leaves much to be desired. He continues to act oblivious to persons’ sufferings and concerns, and the transgressions of the PPP that hurt his supporters. His failure to prioritise the importance of his supporters is no different from the behaviour he displayed when he was in office.

Yours faithfully,

Lincoln Lewis

So much oil money to do so much that nobody will feel marginalized. What is taking the PPP so long to spend the money?

Granger hand over everything to Harmon. Granger gave Harmon a  Presidential role and he was not elected to it. Granger gave Harmon the authority to speak for the Oppostion and he was elected leader of the PNC. The APNU has limitations on the PNC all in favor of Harmon.

Mr. Lewis, yuh aught to get rid of Granger, and soon.

S

Granger is guilty of the same things Lewis is accusing the PPP of doing.

The Attorney General is doing his job going after the dead beats from the APNU/AFC coalition.  The PNC spared the hooligans in its party only to have them commit the same crimes over and over again.

Harmon was the architect of the attempted rigging by the PNC members of GECOM.   Lewis wants him to get rid of Granger and installed himself as the Supreme Leader.  That is not democracy.  The PNC was never transparent and accountable for their action, yet they want the PPP to do exactly that.

The buck stops with the president. I am giving him the credit for all the developments initiated so far by the government. You have to admit that the man is doing a job better than any PNC administration. The PNC made Guyana a shithole place and the PPP had to dig them out from there.

The PNC corrupted Moses and Khemraj or else Guyana would have been a better place when they were kicked out of office by the people.  I heard you voted PPP.

What a laugh! The Coalition Government did a better job when they took office in 2015? Name one project that they did?  They seized Government properties and tried to put the PPP ministers in jail and failed.  They had no proof of any wrongdoings. They then robbed the treasury.  OMG!

Stop being personal and answer the man question, What have they done? Thief, Thief!

The PPP is uncovering all the shady deals from top to bottom, many will be jailed.

The PPP just months in office are getting things done, even in a pandemic.

Oh, what is happening to the election petition, melting snow.

K

If humpty continues along the path that he is going then he will be dumpty.  He is reinvigorating the ranks of PNC and ANC by giving the impression that the West Africans in Guyana are hated and are being discriminated.  You have these extreme anti-koolies like that Greene now appearing with that Ben Chopsticks  (that koolie with specks of white blood that makes him superior to the rest of us koolies) and talking about racism against the black people.  You have to be smart thinking and not play into these people hands. They are trying to paint Humpty and his party as an anti black racist party that hates blacks.  Don't give them ammunition to fight you.

They running behind Guyanese who got a piece of land .The current PPP are not Democratic and Nationalistic ,they intend to sell out Guyana to Foreigners and fatten themselves and cronies.

Seigy, you will never know facts, you cannot handle facts!!

About two thousand Indians supposedly voted for Granger and he became President. For Black ppl who are Guyanese he was a great President. Granger is more Black than being a Guyanese, so acted in Black ppl interests. He is a LAZY PERSON, doing good for Guyana is a hard job. It was much easier for him the route he chose.

The threat for the PPP, is that there will always be two thousand indians who can swing their votes. Every so often, a PNC Black leader will say the right things like Granger did.

And they will vote for him-they are the real Guyanese. Everybody else is a cooolie and blackman.

Lands and Surveys under probe for 100s of acres of land sold below market value, no public tender

…all transactions approved under APNU/AFC being reviewed

A slew of land transactions done by the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission (GL&SC), which resulted in certificates of titles being issued to persons for lands sold under market value and without public tender, are currently under review by the Legal Affairs Ministry.

Former GL&S Commissioner, Trevor Benn

This was confirmed by Attorney General Anil Nandlall in an interview with this publication. According to him, hundreds of acres of land were sold in this manner under the former A Partnership for National Unity/Alliance For Change (APNU/AFC) Government. These sales are all being reviewed.
“This includes (a) vast number of transactions relating to commercial lands within the city of Georgetown, including Government reserves, (and) huge portions of land at the area where the new Diamond/Ogle intersection road is likely to be built,” Nandlall explained.
“I speak of lands (on) both sides of the road, hundreds of acres. Lands that are not even owned or under the control of the Lands and Surveys Commission, but owned by other state agencies, were disposed of unlawfully,” he further explained.
According to the Attorney General, the transfers occurred both before and after passage of the No Confidence Motion (NCM) that toppled the former Government in December 2018. In fact, Nandlall noted that transactions were taking place even after APNU/AFC lost the March 2nd General and Regional Elections.
It is understood that the lands were approved by the GL&SC, after which titles were issued by the Guyana Land Registry.
Nandlall noted that former GL&SC Commissioner Trevor Benn, who was sent on leave in September, had headed the agency at the time these things happened.
“The matter is made more egregious by the fact that there was no principle by which the purchase price was determined. So, one piece of land was sold to one company for over $100 million, and a similar size of land in the same location was sold for less than 10 per cent of that price,” Nandlall said. “And no public process whatsoever was engaged in in relation to the disposal of these lands, which is the identical thing that occurred at NICIL. So, the general public never got an opportunity to buy this land, nor were they even made aware that these lands were up for sale or lease.”
He therefore questioned how the persons who benefited from the land were made aware that the land was available, and whether they were tipped off about the availability of the land due to their political connections.
Nandlall has, however, made it clear that a day of reckoning is coming for those deemed guilty of engaging in these transactions.
“All those transactions are ultra vires, unlawful, null and void. By the end of this week, some of these transactions under review will be made public, and after they are made public, the files will be passed to the Guyana Police Force for investigation and (the institution of) charges where necessary,” The Attorney General explained.

Revoked
Under various pieces of legislation, the President of Guyana is allowed to delegate a number of powers vested in him. These pieces of legislation include the State Lands Act and the Lands Department Act in respect to sanctioning of renting and granting of leases, licences, and permission of occupancy of all public lands to the Guyana Lands and Survey Commission, exercisable by the Commissioner of the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission.
After assuming office in 2015, former President David Granger had, in 2016, delegated his powers of approving and issuing leases and licences of State lands to Lands and Surveys Commissioner Trevor Benn.
One of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) government’s first acts in August was to revoke Benn’s powers to approve and issue leases and licences, or to grant permission for occupancy of State lands.
The actions of the GL&SC almost mirror those of its sister agency the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL), whose former Chief Executive Officer Colvin Heath-London was recently sacked and taken into custody by the Guyana Police Force.
It has been revealed that the former APNU/AFC Government vested almost 100 acres of prime State land at Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD) to eight different companies. All told, the total value of the land is some $2.9 billion, but NICIL received only approximately $64 million in payments.
NICIL is also taking flak for the leasing of several plots of land at Peter’s Hall by two companies, A-Z Pharmaceuticals headed by Eddie Doolal, and Life 1 Pharms Incorporated headed by Avalon Jagnanan. These lands were leased and then flipped for a profit.
Of interest, too, is the fact that in both lease agreements, a clause was deliberately modified to state that “the lessee may divest the land, may part with possession, may assign it to a third-party interest”.
However, Guyana’s State Lands Act stipulates that whenever State lands are leased, the lease agreement must indicate that the lessee “shall not” part with lands (possession) or “shall not” assign the interest in the said agreement without the consent of the State.
It also states that in the event that there is going to be a transfer to a third party, the State reserves the right to step in and repossess the lands, reverting ownership to the State. (G3)

I wish you stupid azz coolies stop using the the Whiteman laws which stole Native ppl lands and yuh jackasses wish to benefit from it. NICIL is like the Europeans, tek wah nah belong to dem.
