I suspect it is a Chinese worker who used to work in Africa, but was subsequently sent to Guyana to continue his hard labour sentence.

the vector could be birds...actually, I do not know if birds are a vector. Guyana has more contact with native Africans than with Chinese who worked in africa. The probability that the Chinese brought it is miniscule.
