Warrior’s sponsor GTT gives tickets to Orphans as team visit St John’s Bosco Orphanage

GTT, sponsor of the Guyana Amazon Warriors cricket team participating in this year’s Hero CPL, presented tickets for one of Guyana’s home games at Providence to Orphans as the Martin Guptill led team paid visits to St John’s Bosco Orphanage in Plaisance and GTT’s Head Office in Brickdam yesterday as a part of their off the field obligations.
The Warriors, along with Manager Trinidadian Omar Khan and their support staff provided life-lasting memories to the excited Orphans by interacting and playing cricket with them before GTT’s Public Relations Officer Alison Parker presented 25 tickets for Saturday’s game between the Warriors and the Trinbago Knight Riders to the Orphans and their Teachers.
The Warriors team arrived with a trio of heavily arm cops with bullet proof vests, while their team bus was escorted by a police car with wailing sirens to the East Coast from their Kingston Hotel.
As they entered the compound the team was greeted with a hearty welcome, while a 92-year-old lady, described by her care givers as an ardent cricket fan who watched cricket all the time, waved from a window on the second floor and when the players waved back her smile was as broad as the Essequibo River.
During the cricket playing session, one of youngsters (Sunil Baksh) began belting the ball around and had several cameramen ducking for cover due to his powerful shots, prompting some of the CPL cricketers to joke that the team had found Babar Azam’s replacement.
Parker said that it is a rare experience to meet International stars in cricket and that it was a wonderful occasion to bring happiness to the lives of those not fortunate to have their parents with them.
“I was told that there are 40 students here but only 23 were still here during the holiday period and on behalf of GTT, I want to present 25 tickets to those children that are here and their Teachers for them to go to Saturday’s match at the Stadium to see those they have met today playing on the field,” Parker told the gathering.
Pakistan fast bowler Sohail Tanvir spoke on behalf of the team and said the Warriors were pleased to share their time with the children and bring some joy into their lives and promised to perform well for them on Saturday.
The Manager explained that is was very important for the players to be involved in such activities which allow their fans meet them in person and encouraged Guyana to come in their numbers for the home matches.
The Warriors then paid a visit to GTT’s Head Office at 79 Brickdam when the staff had the opportunity to meet the players and have photographs with them before they departed for their first practice session in Guyana since the CPL started.
The Warriors, who lost their first three games before beating St Lucia Stars in St. Lucia, has four home games on August 17, 19, 20 & 22 at Providence.
