STOCKHOLM (AP) â Norway's Statoil says a drilling rig in the North Sea has been hit by a big wave, killing one worker and prompting the evacuation of the platform.
In a statement, Statoil said a "heavy wave" slammed into the COSL Innovator rig, injuring three people and damaging the rig's accommodation module. The injured were airlifted to land by Norwegian rescuers. Statoil said one of them died later.
Statoil said it was assisting in the "evacuation of the rig down to the safety crew. Evacuees are being flown ashore."
Statoil didn't say how many people were aboard the platform, which had been taken off a well in the Troll oil and gas field due to rough weather.
