Zeeburg man accused of stealing shoes refused bail

January 28, 2016 5:06 pm Category: Crime, Internet, latest news, Local News A+ / A-

A fisherman hailing from Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara (WCD) has landed himself in hot water after he allegedly stole two very expensive pairs of shoes and ended up in the Courts.

shoesDundas Joseph, 35, of lot 121 Zeeburg Old Road, WCD, was refused bail today when he appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court after pleading not guilty to the offense.

The charges state that on January 26, 2016 at Lot 47 Bruster Street, Georgetown he stole one pair of Kenneth Cole shoes valued at $35,000 and one Puma blue shoes worth $25,000 which were the property of Akeem Josiah.

The prosecutor objected to bail stating that Joseph is a flight risk since he has no fixed place of abode and continues to give conflicting information as to the location of his home.

As such bail was denied and the defendant was remanded to prison.

The matter will return to court on February 26, 2016.

Poor people in Guyana would steal food, clothe, shoes or petty stuff. Poor people would not receive a fine or put on bail. A GDF was put on bail for raping a child. A board member of GPL was put on bail for stealing millions. Yet, the poor folks would never get the same treatment. How would you send a man to jail for stealing a pair of shoes? This poor man didn't deal in drugs or smoke dope in public. He wasn't charged with indecent exposure or rape a child. He took a pair of shoes for God sake.
