The big question is: What can Ramotar do different? Can he be his own man and cut himself away for the past regime and give fresh leadership? Or is he tied to it? What should he do?

One of the first thing he should do is to reduce that VAT.

Don't be naive, every time Jagdeo's name came up in rumors of a 3rd term the entire opposition go into convulsions. He would win hands down had he been allowed to run again as per the constitution. What makes any of you people think that Ramotar needs to do anything different but rather carry on the initiatives of Jagdeo in order to stay in favor with the electorate? It is a fatal mistake to assume that the public wants any type of change. ahahhahahaha

In the interest of the nation Ramotar has to say that he is his own man, and he has to say how. He cannot be perceived to be tied to Jagdeo's coat strings. Then you will have a Putin situation. What has Ramotar done so far to show that he can stand on his own two feet? Not a lot.

Ah common, Ramotat's two feet can bear a lot of weight.
Ramotar is too closely associated with the Jagdeo administration to make any significant change, if elected.
Jagdeo was instrumental in putting him where he is and he will continue to be strongly influenced by Jagdeo.
If the PPP is re-elected, Ramotar will be working in a Jagdeo system and Jagdeo influence will overtake him.
Ramotar track record, especially with Guysuco is not a good one. He hold a key position in the sugar industry, yet it was allowed to become what it is today, especially the Skeldon factory. He does not have the confidence of the sugar workers.
Holding a significant position with the PPP, he had an opportunity to challenge Jagdeo in decision making, yet he remained quiet. He is not seen as having assertive leadership skills.
Many, especially in Region 6, do not see him as being a different leader from Jagdeo and if elected, the status quo will remain or become worst.

If Ramoutar is truly interested in paying off the national debt, then he should keep taxes intact, especially VAT.
