A POLICE crime scene photographer was the first witness to take the stand on Wednesday before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman as the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the murder of America Street money-changer, Shawn Nurse called ‘Fabulous’, commenced.

Kerwin DaSantos called ‘Buffy’ and George Hope called “Gregory”, both 24-year-olds, are currently on remand for the indictment , which alleged that on February 4 at America Street, they murdered 47-year-old Nurse during a robbery.

The PI commenced with the testimony of Corporal Orlando Alleyne, who is attached to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Guyana Police Force.

The matter is being prosecuted by Corporal Shawn Gonsalves and was adjourned until April 20.
On Sunday, February 4, Nurse was shot in the head after he refused to comply with the suspects’ demand that he turn over whatever cash he had on his person. Reports are that after Nurse was shot to his face, the robbers escaped.

The police were able to make the arrests after reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding buildings. Just last year, Nurse was robbed, but was later able to identify two of the persons who had allegedly committed the offence.

Patrick Goodluck

A 24-year-old man of North Sophia, Georgetown, was on Wednesday remanded to prison on a robbery charge.

It is alleged that on February 25, 2018 at Pike Street, Kitty, Patrick Goodluck, while being armed with a gun, robbed Falisapy Carmichael of $55,000 cash and other items valued$ 218,000.

The mason entered a not guilty plea to the charge that was read out to him in court.
The prosecutor objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence and also took into consideration that a dangerous weapon was used to commit the act. It was also stated that the file was incomplete.

The defence attorney asked for reasonable bail to be granted, adding that her client was not a flight risk
Bail was refused by Magistrate Fabayo Azore and Goodluck was remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned for May 2, 2018.

It was stated that two years ago Patrick Goodluck was remanded to prison on a similar charge. He was one of two young men who were badly beaten on an allegation that they had attempted to rob North Ruimveldt barber, Roger Lovell.

He was remanded when he appeared before City Magistrate Judy Latchman to answer to the charge of attempting to commit a felony. He denied the allegation, but the police prosecutor objected to bail, stating that Goodluck and another person had walked into Lovell’s house and attempted to rob him of his gold chain and motorcycle while being armed with a gun.

The prosecutor said Lovell raised an alarm and public-spirited citizens caught the bandits and beat them severely.

ME WRONG!!!

What can government do to keep robbers off the streets and keep people safe? If I suggest they be given a weekly salary, free food, house and clothe with one-year probation from breaking the law, would that be appropriate?

Very asinine statement. You think after a year these leeches would reform themselves? Why work when you can get free food and clothing. If Guyana doesn't have money to help the honest unfortunate, where would the government get money to provide welfare to these criminals? Are you not advocating "kicking the can down the road"?
