Nothing wrong with the picture. However, it shows the challenges that many face everyday.
I guess they are going to school. But 2 things are missing, no life jackets and there should have been an adult in the boat

I suppose you would send your children out on a boat like this to face these challenges?

Bai, those are first world issues. Folks in Guyana don't have such luxuries.

They are paddling across the Pomeroon after school.
I would admit though that Guyanese kids are more adaptable to these challenges than NA kids.
It is like some us in the olden days walking several miles to go to school, some barefoot
We couldn't wear shoes since we had only dry weather roads that became sticky mud when there is even a slight rainfall.

No. Thankfully I don't need to.

But Guyana is not supposed to still be there in 2017. Guyana is a small country with less than a million people so it can't be so difficult getting things updated.
Those children must have made those trips hundreds of times, with their parents and without their parents. It's their only mode of transportation. It's like teaching your kid to drive a car. Someday you have to give them the keys, trust them and let them go alone. I am sure they are experienced and responsible.

This is normal in the Pomeroon for many many decades. My wife tells me she had her own small boat at Jacklow in the 1960s-mid70s and not only paddled to school but also did errands crisscrossing that river frequently. But, in those days schoolchildren didn't have to face turbulence from oncoming or bypassing high-powered speedboats.

I thought about this and realize that maybe these speedboat operators realize that someday these could be their children.

What is wrong with that, it is their way of life, their mode of transportation.

The nomadic children of Africa face lions and other dangerous animals when they leave home grazing their livestock. I guess it doesn't matter where you live, the danger is just around the corner.

el presidente donated two 'David G' school boats to Pomeroon. Please ask your girlfriend Amna if they are still in service, or being serviced.

Naaah!!! Just saying most of their parents might have voted for the PPP. They might not want technology to interfere in their lives. They are happy with the way things are. Change things and chaos might follow..corruption.
All the PNC did was "PROMISE". They never intended to fulfill any of these promises. They wanted to get their hands on the milk and honey the PPP left.

Whatever happened to these boats? I am sure if they were in service, we would have seen them all over the news...the good deed "David did".

hundreds do that daily and many in more precarious canoe. My sister and I use to do it when we lived on the demerara and had to go to school at Sand Hills. We stayed at the hostel there during the week but traveled to and fro by small boat. As I saw it on a visit home I would not have let my kids do it. River folks have a different view of the world. It is as we do the roads and trails. That is their highway

Bhai, Hapless David gave out one boat for a photo opportunity. That chap Granger lacks vision and leadership skills.

I know. We took a lot of risks. Any way we called for changes and I feel it is incumbent for the Government to ensure and/or provide safety for its citizens.

You think they can provide some life vests for the boat children? Rather than sport up, invest the money in the children.

This is an ample opportunity for the PPP boys to step in and get the votes. Look at the mansions they have built and the multiple Mercedes they own and drive and then look how APNU+AFC gave themselves 50% raise. A tragedy is waiting to happen.
