I did not say that they don't. That does not mean that the US dollars was not a legal tender during Burnham's days. Sijan Plaza only sold in US dollars back then. And here is another aspect of Sijan Plaza. The stuff they sold were mostly stuff siezed by Customs. Nontheless, things are priced in Guyana with the US currency exchange rate in mind.

You earn more than us here in Venezuela, our minimum wage monthly is about US$162 as the US Dollar costs 5,90 Bs,the one the government says that costs 2,15 is fake as one is only allowed to buy about 3000 I think in a year and verytime it becomes more and more difficult to get it,so the minimum wage of Venezuela is the lowest of America.

It is distressing to know while canada pays Minimum $10/hour South American wages are so low

Alijuna, never thought that wages in Venezuela, (an oil rich country) was that low, figures why we can see quite a few Venezuelans working in Georgetown, one of the reasons can be that travelling from Guyana to Venezuela via land route is now easily accessable, and we expect in future that there will be more cross border trading.

Bus Service to and from Lethem will get you to Guyana and back to Venezuela. It is somewhere between six to eight hours from Georgetown to Lethem. The cost is within the vicinity of GY$8000 to $10,000

Thank you so much for the info, unfortunately as far as I know we venezuelans need a visa to enter Guyana so probably it is not as easy as getting to Brazil where passports are just stamped and thatΒ΄s it,hopefully with Venezuela now completely in Mercosur it will only be needed an id to cross borders in all of its members, thatΒ΄s great.

I thought that visas were no longer required to travel within South America.

asj she is referring to minimum wages cross the board. You are referring to minimum wages in the public service. US$5/day or $30/week or $120/month seems to be the answer.
Dont mention that in public because maybe only Haitians would be impressed by that.
BTW reports are that govt advertised a job for an engineer for around US$450/month. Guyanese who are ILLEGALLY in Bdos earn more than that.
