This is an important post because come next election nine, seven, and eight can be sure bet if the PNC were to make sure these people get what is their due. Strong emphasis to self improvement and capacity building with Amerind concerns at the focus can consolidate strong bases here in these regions. Then they will have to target areas like crabwood creek and east canje to meet local needs for water, electricity, good roads and they got the PPP by the balls by the balls. I think they should focus on building a bridge on to connect Rose Hall canje to New Amsterdam.

You will admit that Amerindians have unique problems in Guyana.

I note that you mention mixed and not African.  You do know that they voted for APNU AFC in overwhelming numbers.  Don't fool yourself that the PPP has the mixed vote.

However he is very concerned for the welfare of Amerindians because he singled them out in his speech in NY when he was here during the campaign.

And who is saying he should not? Amerindians has natural patrimony. Their status as having that special position pre-existed the state.

I wonder why. During the  fabrication of the  the Amerindian act of 2006 there were objections to the use of the term Indigenous Peoples for amerindians alone because African groups were also claiming to be indigenous peoples as well. Have to see what this means tomorrow.

Let us not paint the Amerindians as saints.  I feel confident that the Amerinian groups which first arrived in what is now Guyana were pushed aside by more aggressive Amerindian groups which arrived later.

The issue is that Amerindians exist in the interior and therefore as a group have unique problems.  In addition, unlike the other small minority groups (Portuguese and Chinese) they are considerably poorer than others and so lack the ability to advocate for themselves and to protect their interests.  So they need additional attention to, as you say, increase their capacity to take care of themselves and to cease being treated as wards of the state.

Dont give a crap who pushed whom. Just know Amerinds pushing each other means they were here and that is the basis of indigeneity to which is attached a special class of rights acknowledged by the UN and subscribed to by practically everyone else.

So using the notion of who was here first Indians should be assigned the lowest ranking, given that they were the last to arrive.  So Amerindians  first, Africans second (the white colonizers no longer live in Guyana), followed by the various indentured groups, Portuguese, Chinese and Indians in that order?

.If you go into history you can find all kinds of wrongs, like when the Amerindians cooperated with the Europeans to keep the slaves under control, by returning any who tried to escape the plantation.

I suggest that you focus on the here and now and forget the notion that any group is entitled to any special favors due to past history.  Amerindians have specific disadvantages within modern day Guyana, and need special help. END OF STORY!  ..

That is your view. We do not want to commit cultural genocide via accultration. There are ways of maintaining national identity without being subsumed by any dominant group. End of story.

MY view is that Amerindians face unique challenges in Guyana in 2015.  If this wasn't the case there would be no need for special focus. Making claims to be the first group to arrive in Guyana is certainly not a reason for special treatment.

There are no "indigenous" people in the Americas. One group just arrived in larger numbers before the others.

BTW I don't think that the Arawaks and others would agree with you that attempts to cultural dominate groups was non existent among Amerindians.  After all what were the Caribs doing?
