It's been a given that Trump embodies the anger of about 40% of the voting population who will never any generic Democrat, let alone the hated figure of Hillary Clinton.
It is also a known fact, yes fact, that economic metrics are mixed, and that outside of this Trump 40% anti-establishment, anti-Republican elite, and anti-anything-Democrat, Americans have traditional thinking on pocket-book issues and a belief in American optimism.
So let's look at the messaging.
Trump sold his voters on these:
- Foreigners are your problem as far as job availability, wages and freebasing on government welfare.
- Trade Agreements put America at a disadvantage and we must either get better terms or rip these Agreements up.
- America can have factory jobs that are in countries with a comparative advantage.
- America is a dark place now
- America must pull out of military pacts and involvement overseas where it does not financially help America.
- We need to get rid of Obamacare....we'll figure out later how to replace it.
Hillary sold her voters on these:
- America is a place that we can make stronger with investments in education, infrastructure and smart Trade Agreements.
- America must work with its Allies to combat terrorism.
- Obamacare can and must be made better.
- America needs to provide greater equality in the workplace for women, including child care provision.
One conspicuous message lost is that a woman can be a US President because Hillary is not seen as your traditional woman, but a conniving, ambitious, corrupt individual - oh, one of Trump's message.
Does sane America win out on Tuesday or does the frightened America wins out. history shows that optimism and a hopeful America always wins.
