Tharoor was born into an Indian expatriate family living in London, which returned to India after his birth. He completed a bachelor’s degree at the University of Delhi in New Delhi, and in 1978, at age 22, he was awarded a Ph.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. At that time Tharoor was the youngest person ever to earn a doctorate from the Fletcher School. Later that year he became a staff member in the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva, Switzerland.

During his subsequent 23-year career as a diplomat in the United Nations, Tharoor served in various capacities, including deputy chief of the UNHCR Secretariat (1985–89), special assistant for the United States and UN for peacekeeping (1989–96), executive assistant to the secretary-general (1997–2000), and under-secretary-general for communications and public information (2001–07). In 2006 Tharoor was chosen as India’s official candidate for the post of secretary-general. He finished second out of the seven candidates in the 2007 election, which was won by former South Korean diplomat and politician Ban Ki-moon. Following his defeat, Tharoor resigned from the UN and became the chairman of an investment company based in the emirate of Dubai (Dubayy).

Mits, why does he have both "Inglorious Empire" AND "An Era of Darkness" on sale at Amazon? They are both the same! I was suckered into buying both! He didn't know, huh?

Shashi Tharoor is booked under Section 306 of the IPC, which attracts maximum punishment of 10 years.

Shashi Tharoor had earlier compared Modi to 'a scorpion sitting on a Shivling' and 'you cannot remove him with your hand and you cannot hit it with a chappal either'.

Shashi Tharoor attacks PM Modi again, calls him hero on white stallion with upraised sword.

Shashi Tharoor renewed took another jibe at PM Modi saying there have been lot of contradictions in PM's style of work in the past four and a half years.

Shashi Tharoor asks why BJP has not built bigger statue for the Mahatma.

Shashi Tharoor was dropped from the post of congress spokesperson on 13 October 2014 after he praised statements of his party's opponent, Prime Minister Modi.

Shashi Tharoor gets it wrong again: Institution of democracy, not Jawaharlal Nehru set stage for 'chaiwalla' as PM.

cricket is an english game.

Cricket was played in India even before the British went there. Cricket was first reported when the boys hit the ball into the pond, there was a snake there. Krishna, not Shellyv , went in and killed that monstrous snake and retrieved the ball.  Baansuri Waala used it to bring the various Jaatis together. As usual, the Angrezees would like to take credit for it.

Nehrubhai, In 1838, there were millions of beggars and homeless people in the streets of Calcutta. They were starving and naked. They prayed for a miracle and the British ships came and took them in. Fed them, give them blankets to wrap their naked bodies, and pillows to sleep on the deck. That was something India never did for them. They were brought to the west indies and were given a roof over their heads, jobs so that they can feed their families.

Don't curse those British People.

Yeah? My father, a Rajput, said in court that he had to sell his gold jewellery, which signified he came from a wealthy land owning family, to get food onboard! That he was misled by those recruiting labourers for British Guiana! His curiosity and wanderlust got him into that fix! He was in South Africa before!

As I've said before, Rama, India was indeed a wealthy country but that wealth was for the rulers and those who helped them! Why should the British be any different? A Dravidian once pointed out to me that no one invades a poor country! So true!

Publishers seem to know best of their target markets.

According to Quora, Era of darkness was for India. Inglorious Empire is for Brittain.

Haven't read them. Gonna get me a copy.

Have a great day.
