www.inewsguyana.com] –Following the rejection of the government announced wages and salaries increases for 2014 by the main Opposition, General Secretary of the governing People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Clement Rohee has come out in support of the 5 to 8 percent offer; saying it is what can be afforded.
“Once it is an increase by the government the PPP supports it,” Rohee told Reporters this morning, Monday December 01 even as he reminded that the administration is anything but anti – working class.
He sought to assure workers that if the government could have afforded a larger increase it would have been granted.
“Everything has to do with affordability. If government could afford more they would have given more,” he said; adding that, “Don’t believe there are just a few people that sit in a smoke filled black room that plot that no we not going to give 10 percent we will give 8 percent.”
Opposition Leader David Granger at the weekend rejected the increase; saying it is another arbitrary imposition of another paltry ‘freck’ on public servants salaries.
To this end, Rohee said “anybody would be grateful for a small freck.” The increase range from 5% to 8% for over 20,000 Public Servants and Members of the Disciplined Forces, retroactive to January 1, 2014.
