Attorney general strangely silent on this accusation

Dear Mr. Editor, As is his wont, the Attorney General has been voluble of late pronouncing on a range of issues. Among these are having to do with making favourable comparisons to the Access to Information Act 2011, and flaying the United States Ambassador for his criticisms of Press Freedom in Guyana (SN 2014-05-05). More that two weeks have passed, however, since I noted APNU’s accusation against the AG of incompetence in their SN column of April 17th 2014. So shocking is this charge against the government, but the AG in particular, that I expected a swift response from the usually garrulous Minister. The goodly Minister may be interested to learn that residents of Lethem are discussing this matter and are surprised at his deafening silence to date. I note too, that a charge of ignorance of the Local Government regime was directed against former Minister Bibi Shaddick in a subsequent APNU column. When one takes into account that Ms. Shaddick was a government member of the Special Select Committee tasked with reviewing the Local Government Bills, I do believe that it is incumbent upon her to clear herself of this accusation. Editor, while we do not expect our leading government members to be geniuses, we do expect them to be reasonably competent and to have a grasp of their portfolio or remit.
