Why is the PPP supporting Kwame McCoy’s obnoxious behavior?

Dear Editor,
While death in politics is not always a permanent state, the appointment of Mrs. Harper from the Civic Group, which is a sham, because that group does not exist, is being seen by many political onlookers as the final nail in the PPP’s coffin. Of course, this has happened a few times during the 1980s, but this latest imbroglio between the Old Guard and the Jagdeoites has certainly made the PPP politically and economically distinct from what Dr. Jagan had envision.
Mr. Rohee’s handling of Mrs. Harper’s appointment and Kwame McCoy behaving worse than a chimpanzee at press conferences and no one, not even Rohee or Luncheon has rebuked him, have left the party members and supporters bitter and more confused. Kwame McCoy’s behavior shows that the Office of the President has degenerated to its lowest level ever. How can Ms. Harper tolerate, or be around such horrible, obnoxious and low class PPPites like Kwame McCoy? Is the PPP supporting Kwame McCoy’s obnoxious behavior?
As scandal mounted upon scandal, the leaders of the PPP had no choice but to select someone with an unblemished character to improve the shattered image of the party even though she has no political experience. The PPP claim to stand for principle, change and new politics sounded increasingly bogus and hollow. Indeed, the frequent wishy-washy statements from the un-schooled General Secretary are in distinct contrast to those of the President and Dr. Lunchoen. Neither Mr. Ramotar nor Dr. Luncheon sang the same tune as the General Secretary because they knew that Ms. Harper’s appointment was a surprise to almost everyone because she is virtually an unknown to the public and the Freedom gang, and she is definitely not from the Civic.
Their desperate haste to select a Prime Ministerial candidate with morality and integrity and to gain political mileage out of their pretentious actions has disappointed an increasing number of PPP supporters who are disenchanted with decision. In a shocking but loaded and profound message, many of them have bluntly and defiantly told their ill-advised leaders it is time for them to get real and emancipate themselves from the shackles of the evil racial bogey which has so viciously contaminated the landscape of their gifted and beloved nation.
Obviously, their request must have fallen on deaf ears but subconsciously, they were appealing to the better instincts of those who thrive on the demonic and diabolical vagaries of the race card to exploit the innocent insecurities of the uninformed and the vulnerable for political gains. By their deeds they know themselves. The remarks have awakened a nagging concern regarding concerted efforts by the PPP to use the race card in this election to create strife, spread hatred and divide Indo and Afro Guyanese. It is a calculated and conscious effort by the Freedom House gang to misinform and mislead their supporters and to convey the impression that if the APNU/AFC Pro-Democracy Alliance wins the election and David Granger becomes the president, East Indians would be deprived of their fair share of the national purse.
However, Indo and Afro-Guyanese have taken justifiable pride in the tremendous strides they have made towards unity. They pity the fact that there still exists this stubborn, but small and racial minority who continue to manipulate the people who through their hard work have eminently brought honor, dignity and glory to Guyana.
Guyanese are proud with the progress made in unifying the nation through education since the attainment of self-governance. Their greatest quantum of progress has been made under the astute policies of the Burnham regime that intelligently and methodically extricated Guyanese from living under some of the most primitive conditions of colonialism.
From inception, the PNC main plank was that of education. Among other things, the late Forbes Burnham was a strong and unrepentant advocate of the philosophy that ‘To educate is to emancipate one self.’ So he wasted no time in introducing the program of universal free secondary education and initiated the process of making tertiary education accessible to all, poor and rich alike.  It was this overarching emphasis which was placed on free post-secondary education that set the stage for equal opportunity for all, regardless of color, class, creed or race.
The time has come for the youths of Guyana to enrich their knowledge and cease to rely on narrow, parochial and selfish political ramblings which have sullied the two major races and focusing their attention on the scourge of racial hatred and divisiveness clinically being imposed on the nation by those in authority who continue to betray the efforts at building a strong, united and harmonious society. All Guyanese should join the clarion call throughout the land and say “No more racial politics in Guyana.”

Chandra Deolall,

Dr. Merle Spencer-Marks.

I do not like Kwame. He is an abrasive, loud and often rude fellow. However no reason to call him a chimp. One should make fun of his pompous prancing and actually be happy when he makes the kinds of mistakes as above. It simply fuels the idea of the PPP as ridiculous.

I told you guys PPP is a cult first and political party second. Once a member is deeply involved he will be protected to the very end. Those not yet fully imbued into the cult will be fired like Asgar Ally.
