Simple answer: the PPP are old communists. They are about one party rule. Is that not why they are implanting IMCs loaded with party hacks all over the place?

The last time there were local govt elections was under the presidency of an " old communist ".....your answer is totally wrong !
The present clique of vultures are not in favour of local govt elections because it gives them the opportunity to continue the swindle of public funds without the participation of locally elected village leaders.....
Since I was a Kid I listened to Dr Jagan complaining about the lack of Local Govt Elections. The current Govt certainly has some respobsibility here. They need to have Local Govt Elections as soon as possible. On the other hand, since 1992, the Opposition whose Blessings are REQUIRED to hold Local Govt Elections have been objecting to EVERYTHING on the Planet. To simply Appoint an Election Commissioner is like building a Nuclear Bomb. So there are enough BLAME to go around. Having said that, the current Elections Commissioner has a DUTY and a RESPONSIBILITY to hold Local Govt Elections.

I agree that Local Elections are overdue. I strongly support freedom of expression and democracy.

It is the President who has the responsibilty to call elections both local and national.....he has to instruct the local govt minister and the elections commission to facilitate this......when Kellowan Lall was appointed the min of local govt he made it public that one of his first tasks was to hold local govt elections elections......this did not happen....
The present minister is singing the same tune but nothing is happening....
The mechanics are in place for the elections but the president is not calling any.....I understand that the opposition is in favour of the elections asap so I don't know what is the hold up.....
The Opposition keep making Demands at EVERY step of the Process. Let them state Publicly that they are ready to support Local Govt Elections in January with the system currently in Place and if the Govt refuse, then we need not debate since we will know where the problem lies.
Churchill, Kellawan Lall, one of our very BEST Minister ever. He reminds me of Clint Eastwood in The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. Which part you think he should play???

I agree that they should remind the powers that be that they are willing to participate in the local govt elections....

It would be impossible to cast Peck in any of the roles you mentioned......he is one of a kind.....any other would be a fake......
They must also respect GECOM since that is an Independent Body responsible to hold FREE and FAIR Elections.

I agree with this also but remember the last elections it was the Jagdeo?Ramouthar clique which showed disrespect for GECOM.....what ever happened to the case when Lumumba assaulted the elections worker ?
Kwahme was also very disrespectful......
