An abstention is taking sides. It is not standing up on principle. We would need others to stand for us in event what occurred in Crimea happened to us. Thee are neighbors claiming lands and having an aggressive attitude to these claims. Despite our belief that these are useless claims, in event of invasion and annexation we have no army to fight against a stronger foe as the Ukrainians with respect to Russia. We need to stand with them.
