ST.JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC- President of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), Dave Cameron, has apologised for what WICB described as ‘inappropriate ‘ comments by captain Darren Sammy after West Indies conjured-up a miraculous four wicket win over England to regain the T20 World Cup.

The WICB boss has also announced plans to launch a probe into the circumstances surrounding Sammy’s comments.

In an emotional post-match interview Sammy said his players had been disrespected by the Cameron led WICB and are yet to hear from them following their historic win.

Sammy thanked the Caricom Prime Ministers especially the chairman, Prime Minister Dr.Keith Mitchell of Grenada , whom he said, sent the team an inspiring email.

“I really want to thank the heads of CARICOM, throughout this tournament they have been supporting the team, we’ve got emails, we’ve got phone calls, Prime Minister [Keith] Mitchell [from Grenada],” Sammy said.

“He sent a very inspiring email for the team this morning … and I’m yet to hear from our own cricket board. That is very disappointing”.

The WICB reacted to Sammy comments in the fourth paragraph of a statement released late Sunday headlined –WICB President has high praises for World T20 Organisers.

“The President would like to however apologize for what could be deemed inappropriate, comments made by the West Indies’ male captain, Darren Sammy in a post-match interview and would like to apologise on behalf of the WICB, to the millions of fans who witnessed,” the WICB statement said.

“The President has pledged to enquire the reason and will have the matter addressed”.

Cameron is due to meet West Indies players next month for an annual stakeholder’s review which would also be attended by West Indies Players Association (WIPA), selectors and the technical team.
